RBI Policy Updates :

Good for Economy & Market

1. RBI Reduces CRR by 50 basis points; To improve liquidity in system, RBI reduced CRR to 4% from to 4.5% in two tranches of each 25bps starting 14th dec 2024.

What is CRR : Cash Reserve Ratio is the proportion of deposits that banks must set aside as cash.
Reducing it by 50 basis points would free up 116000 Crores for fresh bank lending and push down market interest rates. Good for Economy, but will certainly bring down Deposit Rates in near future.

CRR currently at 4.5%, Now after Dec 14th , CRR would be 4%.

2. Credit Line on UPI : Small finance banks to extend pre-approved UPI credit line. Good for Small Businesses as easy and fast credit is now on click of button. FMCG should be at advantage.

3. Limit of Farm Loan (Collateral free) revised from 1 Lacs to 2 Lacs. Good for economy and Farming community. Will boost agri spending and definitely Farm and Agri Machinery sector will get the direct benefit.

NOT so Good News:

1. RBI revised GDP forecast from 7.2% to 6.8% for FY 24-25.

GDP forecast for FY 24-25 is now revised downwards considering Q2 GDP growth rate at 5.4% which came as shocker.

2. Inflation estimate revised from 4.5% to 4.8% for FY 25

Inflation is the rate at which prices for goods and services increase over a period of time. It's a broad measure that can refer to the overall increase in prices or the rise in the cost of living in a country. Not a good news as it will be a drain on our pockets.
