في 2021: ليفاندوفسكي سجّل أهدافًا أكثر، وقدّم موسمًا فرديًا تاريخيًا، وفاز بجائزة الأفضل من فيفا، لكن الكرة الذهبية ذهبت لميسي بسبب فوزه بـكوبا أمريكا.

في 2023: هالاند حقق 5 بطولات، منها الدوري الإنجليزي، ودوري أبطال أوروبا، وكأس الاتحاد الإنجليزي، وكأس العالم للأندية، وكأس السوبر الأوروبي، إضافة إلى جائزة أفضل لاعب في أوروبا، وأفضل لاعب في الدوري الإنجليزي، والحذاء الذهبي. ومع ذلك، ذهبت الكرة الذهبية إلى ميسي بسبب فوزه بـكأس العالم 2022، رغم أنهم في 2010 كانوا يقولون إن كأس العالم ما له أي تأثير. 😂

One reason I will always maintain Ronaldo is the GOAT is that it goes beyond football. Beyond stats. Beyond trophies. Beyond the eye test.

He’s one of the few athletes whose story is applicable to every aspect of life.

Whether you’re in football, basketball, tennis, business, education, or any field that just demands excellence, Ronaldo’s career is a blueprint. The mentality. The discipline. The sacrifice. The willingness to do what others won’t. The obsession with improvement when everyone else is comfortable.

People see the goals and records. I see the lessons.

How many times has the world tried to write him off? How many times has he been doubted, criticized, ridiculed, and declared finished? Yet somehow he always finds a way to respond. He doesn’t run from pressure, he embraces it.

That’s what makes him different.

Talent is common at the highest level. Mentality isn’t.

There have been players with more natural gifts. There have been players with more flair. But very few human beings in any profession have ever shown the level of determination Ronaldo has displayed for over two decades.

Twenty years of waking up every day with the same goal, be better than yesterday.

Twenty years of carrying expectations that would break most people.

Twenty years of refusing to accept decline without a fight.

For me, that’s why his legacy transcends football. Ronaldo isn’t just a football player. He’s a case study in perseverance, self-belief, resilience, and relentless ambition.

When people ask why so many admire him, it’s not just because of the goals.

It’s because he represents what human beings can achieve when talent meets an unbreakable mindset.

I watched the whole game.
My takeaways:
(1) The single biggest question mark about Ronaldo is his age. So the question is how is he moving: agility, strength, balance, speed, jumping and duel ability.

In every regard, here, he looks elite. He was very active here and the previous games, beat defenders on runs (the most important), and has overcome some awkward agility/balance issues he has had in recent years. This is the best he has looked since 2018 Madrid arguably.

(2) The second question is his technical sharpness. In recent years, namely 2022 when he was out of gametime, he was making an uncharacteristic amount of technical errors, sloppy touches, and unecessary ball losses.

Today, he was extremely sharp. His back to goal play was tight. Purposeful. Smart. He did not miss any passes and was as efficient as ever when involved.

(3) Shot creation. This is predicated on his physical fitness - can Ronaldo reach half chances, beat defenders and high lines?

This was absolutely the case. It is completely abnormal for a 41 year old to find those 1v1s and beat defenders - spectacular even. Or his stunning header that barely missed the mark.

These were the key questions that needed answering before the World Cup. He did miss a clear chance and fumble another in the box that he should not have - but this is him not having his scoring boots on/bad game which happens to every striker on the planet - including Cristiano in his prime (see some of his dire performances in WC in the past).

The jury was out as to whether Ronaldo at 41 has the physical and technical attributes to perform. This has been answered. Whether he turns up or no is the question we ask of every player - irrespective of age.
