Republicans are about to increase spending and cut taxes on the wealthiest Americans even though they just fired thousands of federal employees and cut funding for cancer research because of they say they need to cut the deficit and debt. This big beautiful bill will do the opposite of that adding trillions of dollars to our national debt. It’s not about the debt. This is about making the American people believe government can’t work because Republicans intentionally make it fail. Republicans are doing this to justify taking from the most vulnerable Americans who rely on Medicare and Medicaid and food stamps to feed the military industrial complex, the ultra wealthy and the oil industry. Democrats have a responsibility in this moment to stand up united against these devastating cuts, that will only make our country more unequal, less healthy and less competitive on the global scale. Bad government is not a consequence of government itself. It is a consequence of bad leadership.
