Every month, income tax is deducted before your salary even reaches your bank account.

But when your income suddenly stops

No meaningful Income Support

No universal Unemployment Benefits

No strong social safety net that many long term taxpayers can rely on during a crisis.

Mohamed Nowsath shared his story,

saying that he had paid nearly ₹1 crore in income tax over his 14 year career in India.

Recently, however, he was laid off by his company.

His story has reignited a larger debate

Has India's salaried class become the easiest source of tax revenue,

while receiving limited protection during times of hardship ?

Should honest taxpayers
who contribute for years also have access to a stronger Social Security System

and unemployment support when they lose their jobs ?
