Christian Rios (24) was arrested Tuesday in connection with a 2024 police pursuit crash that killed his 18-year-old passenger after a chase involving a suspected armed robbery crew on the Southside of Chicago.
Rios is charged with reckless homicide by motor vehicle and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon stemming from the October 1, 2024 crash near 35th and Ashland.
Police said officers attempted to investigate two armed suspects entering a black Lexus near 55th and Pulaski around 1:58 a.m., but the vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit that ended when the Lexus crashed into an SUV and then a building.
The 18-year-old passenger was ejected and killed. Two weapons were recovered from the scene, including a stolen off-duty Chicago police officer’s firearm reportedly found inside the crashed vehicle.
Police have not explained why charges were filed roughly 18 months after the fatal crash.
