This is the moral equivalent of Q-tip manufacturers telling people not to stick Q-tips in their ears:
(1) It's a very sensible statement but
(2) Why else would you buy Q-tips and
(3) How else are you supposed to clean your ears?

The great Terence Tao in the @NewYorker:
'Tao compared learning mathematics to watching “Emily in Paris,” a show that he and his wife enjoyed. “It’s completely ridiculous fluff, but it’s also fun. You learn the tropes, and you can kind of see how it’s going to go,” he said. “But if you’re just given a synopsis of the plot, like, ‘Here’s the premise, and this is what happens’—that’s not the point.” And, if you want to learn how to write your own show, “then it’s not helpful at all.”'

@alz_zyd_ It's useful for knowing that there are things for which there are complicated but correct formulas. That's about the only semi-transparent example!
(Semi b/c IMO 5-10% is off by an order of magnitude. I'd guess middle school olympiad level)
@SoloGen Of the reasonable reasons, (1) continuity of care and (2) someone has to do the night shift.
I am sorry to report that I thought about it and both apply to grad students/agents
Nathan Fielder really commits to the bit. But if you think about it, every one of us is committed to *a* bit. The only difference is Fielder commits to more bits.
@alz_zyd_ It's not obvious to me that there is a trade-off between sentence-level elegance and general clarity.
I think one thing that's going on is Claudese sounds like it might be dense prose but actually isn't, which makes it hard to read.
(re: discourse on this)
1. OK Solomon, you're horny, what else is new? Real poetry rhymes and scans! They'll just publish anything when you're king
2. NYer did Carson dirty, the full poem makes much more sense
3. I thought about it for 1/2 hour. I don't like it that much
@alz_zyd_ Right and the job of the pure mathematician is to learn new math, so no change at all, just better math; all financed by service calculus sections.
As long as no one asks any questions and it doesn't turn out everyone's sending an AI agent to work instead of them it's fine :)
@alz_zyd_ I think more likely some number n < N of current scientists will be useful in some sense s for time t < T. We can only hope n >> 0 and T->\inf.
