During approps hearing, @USCIS director Ur Jaddou offers some perspective on current immigration backlogs: In Jan. 2017 when Trump took office, the total case backlog before the agency was 1.5M.
Now, that's the number of work permit requests alone currently pending.

Today, @HouseJudiciary is considering two of my immigration bills to create an independent immigration courts system & to modify the per-country limits on family- & employment-based visas.

After hours (and I mean hours) of debate, the House Judiciary Committee advanced, 22-14, @RepZoeLofgren's bill to eliminate per-country caps on employment-based immigrant visas.
It would also raise per-country caps for family-based immigrant visas from 7% to 15%.
