In Memory of Jackie Big Bear Valley’s Matriarch Eagle c. 2012 – August 10, 2026

Jackie was more than a bird on a camera. She was the steady presence in the Jeffrey pine, the patient mother, the fierce defender, the quiet partner to Shadow through seasons of snow and sun.
From the day she first took flight as the valley’s first known eaglet, she claimed this place as her own. Millions of eyes around the world followed her nest, her eggs, her chicks, her struggles, and her triumphs from the start of her Journey to the End.
In watching her, people found calm, connection, and a reminder that wild lives still unfold with dignity far above our own.
She leaves behind her mate, her grown offspring, and a community of millions of watchers who came to love her as one of their own.
The nest is quieter now. But the sky above Big Bear Valley still carries her story.
Rest well, Jackie. You soared for us all.

Been watching the Big Bear Valley Bald Eagles for a couple years and this year was lucky enough to be a finalist in the naming of 1 of 2 eaglets hatched in 2026.
