🏗️ How can aluminium drive the EU’s green goals in construction?

Our two Building Board meetings over the past week tackled this topic, focusing on compliance with the upcoming Construction Products Regulation and the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

Key policy priorities include:

✅ Harmonising Environmental Product Declarations to support the declaration of environmental impacts under the Construction Products Regulation.
✅ Disclosing the lifecycle global warming potential of new buildings under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive in a way that stimulates the use of recyclable materials and design for recycling.

We also had a great visit to Kamp-C, the Centre for Sustainability & Innovation in Antwerp, where we discussed reducing material use and designing construction products for reuse. ♻️🏗️

Our team had the opportunity to visit the TRIMET Aluminium SE’s plant in Essen, Germany 🚌

We dived into the world of #aluminium production, observing manufacturing process of extrusion billets, rolling ingots, and primary die casting alloys first-hand. This kind of primary production is highly needed to build a strong supply of aluminium #madeinEurope.

A heartfelt thank you to Philipp Schlüter, CEO of TRIMET and chair of European Aluminium, for extending the invitation to our team. These practical experiences fuel our commitment to advancing the aluminium industry in Europe.

Yesterday, Prof. Federico Mazzolani chaired his last meeting of CEN TC250 SC9. Over the last years, he has successfully guided the work towards the completion of the new Eurocode 9 on design of aluminum structures, to be soon published by @Standards4EU. Thank you Prof. Mazzolani!
