This is the inevitable outcome of remaking the entire world into something impersonal, digital, global, stripped of local community and necessarily amenable to all different kinds of cultures, beliefs.

Behavioral standards, enforced socially, work when there is a stable arbiter.

Every scrupulous person will be outcompeted by the unscrupulous if there’s no stable arbiter, or if the schemes provide consistent advantage, which in the case of large bureaucracies they seem to.

Saying “bring back shame” is directionally correct but misses the structural factors as to why it was lost.

It is unfortunate that a thinker like you, Bret, does not recognize the game theoretical impossibility of organizing a society on the basis of abolishing tribalism.

Every group has an incentive to maximize their in-group preference while pushing for diligent egalitarianism from other groups, such that they benefit from the best of both worlds.

There is no escaping this. The Nash equilibrium state is to be tribal.

Just because the airplane and steamboat made it so that you can move incompatible people to any arbitrary incompatible place and launder the many issues inherent in this with rapid technological development and wealth creation does not make it a stable long-term formula.

It doesn't make sense why poor people would ever NOT vote to give themselves other people's stuff. Simple game theory.

And the desire to engage in this sort of self-interested politics increases when the rich are seen to do this almost without exception.

If Miriam Adelson donates $106M to Trump to go to war with Iran, inflicting $4 gas on the country—deploying her capital to force Americans to fund something that no average person wanted—why shouldn't the poors use the apparatus of the state in a similarly self-seeking way? I am seeing a lot of bad faith actors take my comments from this interview out of context. So here’s the full interview, and let me expound.

This interview was about the rise of communism on the Left, and I was asked by Jesse Watters why so many young people are buying the false promise of “free stuff” being sold by communist politicians.

My answer: a combination of laziness, yes, and the liberal indoctrination that has been taking place in our education system for far too long. There are far-left educators pumping students’ heads with garbage, convincing them that hard work and sacrifice won’t pay off down the road because they want them totally reliant on the government instead.

I went on to say that’s why President Trump is a huge advocate for school choice, and why so many parents I know are turning to homeschooling. Good parenting matters more than anything, but a solid, civics-based education is also vitally important.

I care enough about our country to tell uncomfortable truths. And it’s an undeniable fact that a growing number of young people in our country are falling for the lies of socialism and communism, sold to them by anti-American politicians who’ve never built anything, offer no real solutions, and are intent on tearing down everything that makes this country great.

At the same time, it’s also true that many Gen Z Americans are hardworking, entrepreneurial, and deeply patriotic, and it’s vital we protect the American Dream for them. That’s why I am honored to work for President Trump and speak on behalf of an administration that is implementing the right policies to do this: lower taxes, less regulation, stopping Wall Street from purchasing single-family homes, Trump Accounts, and the deportation of illegal aliens who are taking our housing and jobs. There is more work to do, which is why President Trump and our entire administration won’t stop fighting to make life better and more affordable for young people.

As the President has correctly warned, “communism is the enemy of free people everywhere. It is the enemy of the Constitution. Above all, it is the enemy of July 4, 1776.”

So I will continue to call out the radical Democrats, socialists, and communists who are lying to our youth, and I know the President will continue to pursue an economic and domestic agenda that expands and strengthens the American Dream for generations to come.

I think it’s fair to speculate over whether Mikhaila Peterson is purposefully harming her father and infant child. One bizarre illness, used by the survivor to gain sympathy and clout, is one thing. Western democracies are in a game theoretical dead end because of this problem. Brokies will always, with certainty, vote to give themselves free things.

You can’t ban this, because the brokies will vote in candidates to overturn the ban.

The solution is to figure out a way to be on the receiving end of handouts, as opposed to those that work to furnish handouts for others.

It’s the only way.

In a country with a strong social fabric, perhaps this game theoretical problem can be avoided, but in our fragmented multicultural disasters there is no solution aside from getting in on the take.

Life in Canada is so depressing. I take home 57% of my wage after income tax, before sales taxes and other taxes. I make a wage in roughly the 95th percentile of incomes in my province, and if I don’t want to live in a shoebox, my wife needs to work rather than raise our two little kids.
