University of South Carolina Department of English. This is my "teaching" handle - I use it for class projects and to connect with current and former students.
Former students, I'm not keeping up with this Twitter account regularly - I set it up for a class assignment and will keep it for that use in the future. If you want to follow me at @aydub78 feel free! (Though be prepared for less caginess about my politics.)
UofSC students, I'd love to see some of you in my summer Women Writers course! Online, asynchronous, all WOC, all the time. Please help me spread the word!
President Trump today at the White House said to me: “Be nice. Don't be threatening.”
I’m not the first human being, woman, black person or journalist to be told that while doing a job.
My take: Be steady. Stay focused. Remember your purpose. And, always press forward.
I'm not trained to teach online. But emailing with students about how they're doing? That I know how to do, and that's the most important part of COVID19 teaching for me right now. Any student or former student who needs to chat, DM or email me. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Have you written a kick-ass paper for me in the past 12 months? Or a pretty good paper that you know could be kick-ass with a little pruning? I'm happy to help you prep it for submission to the INK! conference, which is one of my favorite events of the year. Send in your stuff!
Hello INK! We are currently accepting submissions for the Annual Literary Conference—all the information should be in this post, but feel free to email [email protected] or DM here with questions! If you don’t want to submit, still come to support your friends!
USC grad students, swing by the English Dept lounge at 3pm for a "Make Your Own 5-Year Plan" workshop. Snacks and arts & crafts materials provided.
This resource is not, I repeat NOT, just for 101 & 102 students and writers who need "remedial" help. Good writers take advantage of every opportunity to get feedback on their work. Do drop by and meet these lovely folks, and then come back and use their services!
And we're back!
To kick off the term, we're hosting a "Meet Your Tutors Week" until Friday. Come on by for some help or just to get to meet some of our excellent staff.
Here's to an excellent semester!

For students, how does it feel to be graded? What effect do grades have on your learning? If you’ve been in a class that approaches grading differently or one without grades (like mine), how did that feel/work? RT to invite more folks to join the conversation. #colabungrading
Winter break reading suggestion for SC peeps especially: @aminattaforna 's work. She's coming to UofSC in April. The Memory of Love is one of those novels I will never, ever get over. Read that first, then Happiness.
Spring 2020 course: ENGL 340.001 Literature and Law taught by Dr. Anne Gulick will explore, across national traditions and time periods, "instances in which the gap between law and justice is thrown into stark relief." @aydub78 #UofSCEnglish
A friendly reminder to all students that the Writing Center is NOT just there for 101 and 102 classes, nor is it remedial. Term papers, theses, etc. can all benefit from outside eyes. Writing doesn't always get easier even as you get better at it. Take advantage of this resource!
Have any plans this Thursday, October 31st? Stop by our pop-up tutoring station at the Horshoe Bus Stop for some immediate help on any writing assignment! #WritingTutoring#UofSC#WritingCenter
Hey Academic friends! The English department at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA is accepting applications for its M.A. program and we’re trying to get the word out. We offer a FULLY FUNDED two-year Master’s degree with an emphasis on literature and social justice. 1/5
Mark your 📆 for the Fall '19 Maxcy Visiting Fellow, Djamila Ribeiro! Ribeiro will present a lecture on "Black Feminism in Brazil" at 8 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Russell House Theater. Ribeiro is a writer, feminist philosopher, columnist and Afro Latina activist.
Former students, you know what's super awesome? Getting to chat with you months or even years after our class has ended. The semester is a social construct - intellectual relationships are forever. Keep in touch!
