Namaste Dr. Shama ji,
It is my pleasure and honor to bring some important aspects of this Mantra to your kind notice. The Mantra carries a civilizational distinction unique to Bharat.
Many have already pointed out that this is a Shanti Mantra from Shikshavalli of Taittireeyopanishad. Shikshavalli starts and ends with it.
I am not sure if you can read Devanagari, hence this IAST version of the Mantra.
śaṁ no mitraḥ śaṁ varuṇaḥ śaṁ no bhavatvaryamā | śaṁ na indro bṛhaspatiḥ śaṁ no viṣṇururukramaḥ ||
namo brahmaṇe | namaste vāyo |
tvameva pratyakṣaṁ brahmāsi |
tvāmeva pratyakṣaṁ brahma vadiṣyāmi |
ṛtaṁ vadiṣyāmi | satyaṁ vadiṣyāmi |
tanmāmavatu | tadvaktāramavatu |
avatumām | avatu vaktāram ||
oṁ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ ||
Please pay attention to two verses
ṛtaṁ vadiṣyāmi | satyaṁ vadiṣyāmi |
- I shall speak of Ṛta (cosmic order, righteousness, or truthful thought).
- I shall speak the Satya (absolute truth in speech and action).
These two words ṛtaṁ-satyaṁ and their relationship define Bharat, Dr. Shama-ji.
The former is universal principles of the Cosmic Order (Viśva-niyāmaka-tattva). The Universe is ordered based on an infinite First Principles that ṛtaṁ. Even the English words Rite and Ritual are cognates with ṛtaṁ.
satyaṁ is unchanging, Absolute Truth. ṛtaṁ is the dynamic order of the universe that is part of the Absolute Truth. Thus, the dynamic of the universe itself is part of the unchanging Truth.
ṛtaṁ-satyaṁ are two faces of the same coin - two inseparable dimensions of the same fundamental reality that sustains the cosmos.
Dharma derives its existence, form and meaning from the relationship between ṛtaṁ-satyaṁ. Thus, Dharma becomes the collective of all actions/pursuits that keeps the universe in its most foundational cosmic order.
This relationship is what has ensured diversity, harmony, pursuit of truth, co-existence, non-dogmatism - all those distinguishing features of our civilization ie., Bharatavarsha.
Its not for nothing that the letter ऋ is the distinguishing letter in the Indian Alphabet system. Its not for nothing that Rigveda has the letter ऋ at its start. Rigveda refers to ṛtaṁ ~400 times and satyaṁ follows it in the mention most of the times.
Its also not for nothing that ṛta – ṛṣi – ṛk – ṛcā – ṛju – ṛtu are all completed related with each other.
Is it not worth that the graduating students of every institution know and chant this beautiful Mantra, Dr. Shama ji?
Namaskar again.
@md_ghufrankhan@PTI_News@aravind I knew you wouldn’t find the clown dress objectionable. You are a classic Hindu hater. Carry on! I won’t waste my time on you anymore.
Gayatri mantra is Hindu. Stop dissociating every Hindu ritual and mantra with Hinduism. We are a deeply philosophical faith. Learn to take pride in that. Be unapologetically Hindu. No need for other faiths to accept it.
Gayatri Mantra is not a religious song. It’s a scientifically designed order of sound that unlocks the door of the deeper mind to perceive reality beyond duality. I start my consultations, meetings, and workshops with this mantra, and even westerners who are receptively energetic have mentioned many times that they never heard it in their lives, but after my invocation they sensed a significant shift in their energy field. Unfortunately, we have associated these sound medicines with religion and now conveniently put them in the category of religion or faith.
@MeetBhardwaj_@GabbbarSingh 🥹it’s good to know where you stand in other people’s lives. That way you know how much to expect and not get hurt. I have spent years dealing with the hurt. Now I have let go.
@bookfanaticboss@GabbbarSingh Well that’s life!!! I struggle with health issues and go from pillar to post for the right doctor. I have learnt not to discuss these issues with her. She doesn’t care.
@md_ghufrankhan@PTI_News@aravind But why don’t you? You object to the Upanishads which is Indian heritage. But don’t object to the clown dress which isn’t ?
@md_ghufrankhan@PTI_News Ever heard of being respectful? Shifting the goal post doesn’t change reality. The original constitution of India just check out the images of Lord Ram. Secular or not Indias heritage is Hindu. You can object to it but kindly accept that reality.
@md_ghufrankhan@PTI_News Please refer to @aravind . The gowns that everyone is wearing are directly from the church. Nothing to do with India. Yet you don’t take issue with that.
The gowns these students are wearing come directly from the Church & its clerics in Europe. We never questioned this practice. But tend to question a little bit of our own 3000+ year old culture used, long before the west, in our world's oldest universities like Taxila & Nalanda.
