@theonetruegarbo "no game ever" is crazy but I kinda agree with the sentiment- closest thing to Minecraft's brand of "tile-based simulation with weird edge cases" I can think of is Zachtronics stuff. Hytale's interesting but I'm more curious about the future of Minecraft-derived factory games.

@farawayfarer Kinda curious what the reception would be to the inverse of this- if this shot appeared in the middle of a ""big budget"" scene in a popular anime, would audiences accept it as paying homage to genre influences or would they complain about weird CGI?

@farawayfarer Rewatched this cutscene after reading this- I'm struck by how the scene pivots from big flashy 2D animated fx sequence -> SNES mode 7-esque demoscene -> another animated sequence. Very cool expansion on 90s RPG visual language.

@farawayfarer I'm a little lukewarm on some aspects of the game's pixel art (I don't like thick outlines on small sprites), but the way the sprites are animated is really impressive. The piano cutscene is crazy to me, very detailed hand poses on such a small character.

Fascinated by this account. Gallery where the main takeaway is "wow the Raimi Spider-Man movies look way better than everything since"- but it's interesting to see places in sludge-y MCU movies that are kinda distinctive. Transformation effect here is fun.
