India's traditional calendar (Panchanga) notes the lunar phase (Tithi), 15 for waxing and 15 for waning Moon, occurring at sunrise at each location as marking the beginning the day (not midnight).
Requires precise astronomical data as Moon's rate of motion is irregular and timing of sunrise varies by latitude. Normally there are 371 Tithis in a year. No other calendar is so astronomically precise.
