Pregabalin vs Gabapentin: New Heart Risk Study
A new study (JAMA Network Open, Sept 2025) found that:
1. In people 65–89 years old, pregabalin users had ~50% higher risk of developing heart failure compared to gabapentin users.
2. The risk was much higher in those with prior heart or vascular disease.
3. Even without known heart disease, older adults on pregabalin still had some added risk.

What does this mean?
✅For patients: If you are older or have heart problems, ask your doctor if gabapentin or other options may be safer. Report swelling, breathlessness, or sudden weight gain early.
✅For doctors: Prescribe pregabalin cautiously in elderly, especially with cardiovascular disease. Monitor closely if it must be used.

Bottom line:
Pregabalin may not be the best first choice in older adults with heart risk; gabapentin looks safer.

(Note: This study only showed an association, and further studies are needed to establish cause-effect relationships. Follow your doctor’s advice regarding the use of pregabalin or gabapentin)

One of my friend's wife is an excellent gastro surgeon. However, she struggled to get patients to operate. Majority of patients could not trust her abilities to perform a surgery with excellent outcome. This included women patients too, who would prefer a male surgeon over a female surgeon.
She had to team up with a senior male surgeon in order to get cases to operate. Patients believed that the male surgeon would be operating, however, once inside the theater, my friend's wife used to take over the surgeries. As per the male surgeon, she was a much better surgeon than him.

Are these biases common, or this case is one off?

What happened today with a Doctor in Chennai could bring nightmares to anyone eagerly opting to serve in medical profession

The Horrific visuals of Blood stains doesn’t belong to a patient but an Oncologist Doctor who was stabbed 7 times with a knife by a patient son at cancer ward in Chennai Centenary Hospital.

Incidents like this are a preparation for the dedicated Doctors in the country to plan for shifting Abroad where their Life is protected and dignity is respected . @mkstalin

@talk2anuradha Same is the case with the medical field.... a general category student having 20k rank stands no chance to get a government seat in pg clinical course whereas a category student having 40k rank can easily get one. And the sad part is it will keep happening in future also.
