The satire is that we called him a cynic then. Now we call him a prophet, in hushed voices, because saying it loudly gets you a Twitter mob and a sedition trend.
Singh’s genius: he never shouted. He just poured another drink, and let India’s own contradictions do the shouting.
Essential, uncomfortable, criminally under discussed in classrooms. @Singhkhushwant mapped it 23 years back - secularism eroding, minorities as TV debate fodder, history rewritten as myth, dissent branded ‘anti national’
Same script, better production values, worse audience.

Irony just died again. The cleanest man in Indian politics did not need an SC certificate of his integrity. Instead it is those who sought to implicate him in these charges who ought to be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
India once had an economist as PM who handled crises by fixing the economy.
Now we get speeches telling citizens not to buy gold or travel abroad. What a downgrade.
🚨 Prime Minister Narendra Modi today:
- Stop buying gold.
- Bring back the work-from-home culture.
- Save petrol and diesel.
- Avoid foreign trips and destination weddings.
- Stop importing foreign products.
You’ve been a saviour of The Constitution of India in more capacities than one. Always stood for justice. Few dimwits can only wish to try to touch your integrity. Absolute solidarity and so much more power ✊🏻 @IJaising
🎯 Goodhart’s Law
“When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.”
When governments chase GDP numbers, they may ignore inequality, education, or environmental health, the metrics look better, the reality worsens.
“I knew it wouldn’t work, but I thought everyone else wanted it”. - The Abilene Paradox.
Coined by Jerry B. Harvey, the paradox describes how groups make collective decisions that contradict individual preferences, simply to avoid conflict or rejection.
Psychologically,it rests on three powerful mechanisms
-Pluralistic Ignorance: Each person privately disagrees but assumes others agree
-Normative Pressure: Fear of social disapproval outweighs personal conviction
-Mismanaged Agreement: culture that equates dissent with disloyalty

In groupthink, members believe consensus is right. In Abilene Paradox, they know it’s wrong but go along - failure not of logic, but of communication and courage.
Leaders often mistake the absence of conflict as alignment.
But silence is not consensus - it’s suppressed insight
The Streisand Effect stems from bad censorship or overreaction.
Humans are wired with reactance - Our curiosity spikes; we feel compelled to reclaim control by finding and sharing what’s hidden.
Transparency and quiet correction usually work better than censorship or aggression.
The Streisand Effect: Human wiring to reactance
In 2003, American singer Barbra Streisand tried to suppress a photograph of her Malibu mansion that had been posted online. She sued the photographer for $50 million to have it removed.
Before the lawsuit - the photo had six downloads (two of which were her lawyers).
After the lawsuit hit the news - the photo was viewed over 400,000 times within a month.
Her attempt to hide it made it famous.
Streisand Effect - when trying to suppress information amplifies it.
That’s the Cobra Effect - when an attempted solution to a problem actually makes the problem worse due to misaligned incentives.
Humans are incentive driven but also opportunistic.
We respond to how success is measured, not necessarily why it’s being measured.
