SHOCKING PATTERNS OF HALLS MANAGEMENT MISCONDUCT, SHARE YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE
//
This post contains details of this morning’s Glasgow Guardian story.
People who come to UofG halls as students are so often belittled and infantilised.
We’re having an open meeting tomorrow!
5pm in the Wee G room at the back of the Gilchrist Cafe (pictured) which is dead ahead as you walk in the main gates.
All welcome!
Interacting with the police in Scotland
❌No comment: most of the time you don’t need to give personal details or answer police questions
🔵Light blue bibbed police liaison officers *may* come across as friendly and ask questions. They aim to gather intelligence - say no comment
Your basic right to a well maintained home is written into Scottish law. It falls upon landlords to uphold reasonable living standards. When they don’t, it’s our responsibility to help you fight for your rights! This is how to get your reluctant landlord to carry out repairs. ✊
We are supporting @rentstrikeqmul in their eviction resistance efforts. Evictions are always violence, and immoral, but especially for minor offenses during a pandemic!
if you’re in London, reach out to @rentstrikeqmul on the gram to find out how can help resist evictions!
Please sign this letter to defend students' right to protest unfair treatment, and show the university leadership that making students homeless in the middle of a pandemic is unacceptable: https://t.co/3CtMtu94yD "
Students organising a rent strike at Queen Mary's University London are being threatened with eviction. Since September, 20 students have been evicted, leaving many of them homeless.
Fuck landlords and fuck neoliberal marketised Higher Education

Bombshell! Very pleased to announced that in reply to our FOI @GlasgowCC informed us that there is no preferred bidder for our land in The Valley. We meet with them next week to learn where we stand with this development. Watch this space!

Collina St in @vallyatmaryhill is No 1 on a list we don’t want to be on. This is no first prize. These are the proposals for use of @GlasgowCC owned land. Mostly for ‘owner occupiers’. Social housing does not appear in any plan! Social engineering.

This is not an isolated incident. Students in halls are systematically mistreated, belittled, and dismissed. If this has happened to you, let us know https://t.co/YRO2uB3tmD
Today’s @GlasgowGuardian article today details the experiences of the ‘Murano 12’ in their own words

Our testimonial webpage is still collecting submissions so we can build a case for better welfare at halls: https://t.co/YRO2uB3tmD

We, students of Goldsmiths, are calling a tuition fee strike!
We are tired of a university senior management that has let down both staff and students rather than keeping us safe and secure during the pandemic. We are taking matters into our own hands! #GoldFeesStrike

A painting of a protest with a person wearing a legal observer high vis in the foreground. The protesters have banners that spell out 'Know Your Rights'
They also say 'staff have undertaken checks on security and safety in all residences and found no issues of note.'
This ignores the Uni's own acknowledgment that Murano front doors are insecure. The uni is refusing to fix the locks. Profits are worth more than student safety.
UofG's response to this article contains more lies and victim blaming, claiming 'no reasonable explanation was offered' for property damage. A meeting to explain the damage was followed by an email the next day which stated 'your actions did not directly cause damage to the flat'
This response shows the University doubling down on their mistakes, proceeding to gaslight the flat - denying their testimony while making no attempts to apologise for their conduct.
This stinks of arrogant managerial staff more interested in image than student welfare.
