It is brilliant that so many people have received this help through the cost-of-living crisis.
Equally, it is scandalous that roughly 11% of the population of Scotland’s third largest city needed this help.
More action is needed to end poverty.

So you thought double jobbing at Holyrood had been banned?
Think again! 22 of 24 councillors elected as MSPs last month will stay in post until May 2027.
There is no excuse for this deficit of democracy - the loophole must be closed.

@sodabrunette One year is a long time in politics and all that. We could move to the Northern Irish system where alternates are chosen by elected candidates. Would avoid by-elections completely. Perhaps a less palatable option for many though.
I don’t agree with double-jobbing for our politicians, with the exception of emergency service personnel.
Being a councillor is a full-time job (it should be paid accordingly) and so is that of an MSP. Hopefully, we see amended legislation in this Parliament.
A Green MSP has defended her decision to double job as a councillor.
Kayleigh Kinross-O'Neill spoke out on X after two other @Edinburgh_CC councillors-cum-MSPs resigned today.

@joshpizpom I agree with this. Democracy is expensive but constituents deserve full representation at all levels of government. We could also move to the Northern Irish system where alternates are chosen by elected candidates. Would avoid by-elections completely.
Climate change goes far beyond the environment. It affects public health, economies, infrastructure, and communities worldwide.
Over the past 50 years, extreme weather events have caused more than 2 million deaths and US$4.3 trillion in economic losses.

Last week, we learned that the number of young people not in employment, education or training in the UK reached a grim milestone of 1 million earlier this year.
The UK now has the highest NEET rate of any European country in the OECD and the only EU country with a higher rate than us is Romania.
Aberdeen is getting hit with job cuts.
Oil & gas is in terminal decline, college and uni cuts limit transition opportunities, and our media is becoming further centralised in Glasgow and, to a lesser extent, Edinburgh.
This is not just or sustainable. Where is the action plan?
Aberdeen is Scotland's third largest city, Aberdeenshire has a population matching the city. Yet the only railway stations in Aberdeenshire are the towns that happen to be on the intercity lines, and the city itself has only a single station.
It's time to fix this.
If we want a fairer and greener Scotland, we must be honest about how we pay for it.
As members of #TaxJusticeScotland, we’re urging the First Minister to use the powers he has to tax wealth more fairly.

Since the war in Iran started, it seemed certain that oil companies would be profiteering and people would be hit with higher energy bills.
So why have Scottish politicians spent months pleading for lower taxes on these greedy companies?

@RosaZambonini@MhairiHunter@kellylgiven@ionafyfe I had a pal who didn’t know their partner had an addiction problem. Tens of thousands gone, hidden debt, plans up in smoke. It took a big event before it all came to light.
It’s a reasonable point to make.
The abusive tweets directed at @MhairiHunter@kellylgiven@RosaZambonini and @ionafyfe on here are a new low.
The SNP made mistakes, big ones, which were exploited by a shameless official.
They gave their view. Nothing they said justifies what has followed.
