🇹🇷 Turkey says Hamas has met its commitments while Israel “acts as a spoiler” derailing the Gaza deal

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Hamas has fulfilled its obligations under the internationally backed ceasefire, while Israel has repeatedly derailed the process by introducing new conditions, according to the Turkish outlet Daily Sabah.

“Mediators have worked around the clock, but at every stage Israel has found another pretext while continuing to kill Palestinian children, bomb hospitals and demonstrate that it has no genuine commitment to peace,” Fidan said, speaking to reporters in Amman after a five-party meeting of the foreign ministers of Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.

Fidan warned that failing to curb Israel’s “expansionist policies” would deepen instability across the region, and urged the international community to move beyond statements of support to concrete measures to enforce the Gaza peace plan.

Professor Ralph Wilde, academic and practitioner in international law, addressed Israel’s new death penalty legislation during AOHR UK’s latest webinar, “Israel’s New ‘Death Penalty for Palestinians’ Law — A Grave Violation of International Law.”

He explained how the new legislation:
•Creates an operative capital punishment regime that effectively targets Palestinians, not Jewish Israelis.

•Criminalises acts that may constitute lawful Palestinian resistance under international law.

•Seriously violates the Palestinian people’s fundamental right to self-determination.

•Constitutes unlawful racial discrimination by exposing Palestinians to capital punishment while effectively excluding Jewish Israelis.

•Violates fair-trial and due-process standards and the prohibition of torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

•Must be understood within what he described as the broader illegal systems of apartheid and genocide.

Professor Wilde argued that the legislation is not an isolated measure, but the latest manifestation of a broader, long-standing system of violations against the Palestinian people.
