The accident that occurred in Gof Chopa, Marsabit, claimed the life of one person and left several injured. Survivors had to be taken to private facilities because Marsabit General has no equipment. This is unacceptable we need urgent action to fix our General Hospital.

Marsabit County - has a 66% poverty rate.

The average citizen earns KSH 12,000 a month.

The Governor earns an income that is 82 times higher than the average Marsabit citizen. MCA? 18 times.

About 41% of every single shilling received by @marsabit is spent on salaries, for less than 1% of the county population in government.

Spends about KSH 250 million travelling the globe.

A UK donor wants to get rid of a used, almost certainly fully depreciable ambulance.

Marsabit begs for it. You know, because of that 66% poverty rate. They need all the help they can get.

The donor says - fine. You can have it.

As soon as they hear yes, three geniuses pull out passports. Book flights. Hotel reservations. Dinners and shopping.

Travel to the UK - on your dime, to go "accept" the used car domination.

They blow millions in the process, and are away from work for the time they are out there "accepting" the used car.

That trip is almost certainly more expensive than any value in that used car donation.

These are the people making life and death choices in this country. They are the ones deciding how to spend billions.

Here is what is even crazier. Marsabit can only raise 2% of its annual budget of KSH 8 Billion.

In 2023-2024, it entire county generated KSH 54 million in own service revenue. In a year with 365 days, this KSH 54 million is only able to keep the lights on in the county for a truly shocking 60 hours!

And yes - for every one shilling they earn in own service revenue, they spend 5 travelling around the world.

How is it possible to have 66% poverty, crumbling infrastructure, and almost non-existent healthcare services even after KSH 67 Billion in revenue transfers in 10 years?

The answer:

Relentless. Irresponsible. Decisions.

And now, you and I have KSH 12 trillion that we need to pay. 75% of every shilling in our name, is set aside, to cover this nonsense.

Last week, the National Government announced a reduction in secondary school capitation from ~KSH 22,000 to ~KSH 12,000.

Because, our children are the ones who must pay the price of the stupidity and recklessness of the 1%.

Now, the future is darker and likely painful, unless we embrace change.

If Marsabit can only raise KSH 54 million in an entire year, after KSH 67 Billion - how do you think this math will change in another 10 years?

In 2035, we will be talking about another KSH 100 BILLION SENT. 66% poverty rate. KSH 80 million in own service revenue - if we are lucky.

KSH 1 BILLION IN FOREIGN TRAVEL. A couple of Billionaires in the county - who will be in and out of our courts system, but who will be eventually promoted to higher offices - by us, or a hopelessly and shamelessly corrupt president.

A totally bankrupt republic, and a failed state. A la Haiti. Somalia.

This is not really about Marsabit. It is about US. All of us. That math I just gave you, and the stupid decisions you see here, are replicated every single day, across our entire government, National and County.

This afternoon, I welcomed a delegation from Somaliland currently on a benchmarking tour in Kenya. The visit provided an opportunity for mutual learning and sharing insights on land management practices.

During our engagement, we discussed Kenya’s compulsory land acquisition process in detail. We explained the legal framework, stakeholder involvement, and compensation mechanisms to ensure transparency and fairness.

The delegation expressed keen interest in understanding how Kenya balances development needs with landowners' rights. We shared our experiences and challenges, highlighting best practices that could be adapted to their context.

Such exchanges are invaluable in fostering regional cooperation and improving land governance. We look forward to continued collaboration with Somaliland and other partners to enhance land administration systems across borders.
