@WWF@SEO_BirdLife Dear colleagues, we need your help. Perhaps international presseure could help? E.g. if people and societies globally tell the government not to do it, they might think twice.
Deregulation is a global issue: travelling to Manu NP in Peru I'm learning of a planned vote to allow oil palm expansion in Peru’s Amazon. Please spread and ask people to write the Peruvian gov not to aid few people destroy the most intact world's forest. https://t.co/z0Wiln2aLW
Byond biodiversity, what's at stake is the future of all protected areas in Peru, the future of native people and the future of the Amazon - with global impacts on all of us. Not a reasonable price to pay, I guess? I hope people help the Peruvian gov to come to its senses.

@EUAgri The citizens support it, why can't the EU not follow? With so much money, the CAP could have done so much...
How about a serious reform, to finally make it work for farmers, society, and the environment?

“The big problem in Europe is this incapacity to not give way to lobbies and put public health first”, prof. @HercbergS told @POLITICOEurope.
Commissioners @CHansenEU and @OliverVarhelyi can still prove him wrong when presenting the upcoming Vision for Agriculture and Food …🤓

@HWejberg Land sparing is rather a scientific dream. The pressure on land is increasing with increasing livestock and biofuel demand. By now, Europe uses merely 30% of UAA to feed people. Agri is #1 driver of deforestation in S America: Soy, sugar, meat. Nothing to do with food security.
In a world where 'free trade' translates into 'let Elon Musk become richer on the back of all others', free trade with no proper strings - especially in a region suffering quick degradation led by agroindustry - with central EU contribution, should raise extreme concern, not joy.
We welcome the conclusion of negotiations on the #Mercosur Agreement.
We are creating the largest free trade zone in the world, with an additional market of 260 million potential consumers of European goods.
It is a win-win for European and South American countries.
@ae383829 I don't know about NGOs here. What we can expect is the US to open a pandora box of zero-standards. EU leaders and agrofood giants likely try to avoid missing opportunities. A typical race to the bottom, which will very likely accelerate deforestation, with huge global impacts.
In a paper led by Yves Zinngrebe we analyzed how Europe can take greater responsibility for its huge environmental (and socioeconomic) global impacts.

We'll need to study the details, but it seems the new agreement is a big step in the wrong direction.
Touchdown in Latin America📍
The finish line of the EU-Mercosur agreement is in sight.
Let’s work, let’s cross it.
We have the chance to create a market of 700 million people.
The largest trade and investment partnership the world has ever seen.
Both regions will benefit.
