@MerrynSW No, I disagree. I've been campaigning for 4 years to delay the age children are given smartphones. All the momentum we have built is being channelled into pouches, which do nothing to change that. Please read the 4 min post I shared. Would love to discuss https://t.co/fBPuq7esVm
@SketchesbyBoze Thanks for this list. I would add Roald Dahl. Particular favourite is 'Danny champion of the world' but there are so many, from the BFG to Charlie and the chocolate factory.
@mercantopkara@aakashgupta This is a crucial point that Aakash should acknowledge. To add to it, with a newspaper or book you can see what others are reading. Perhaps different papers, different views, different sections (sport, crossword etc). This also builds connection.
@ShakinthatChalk@AndyNelson1977 It depends on the fidget toy. A piece of plasticine rolled in hand. A doodle pad. Examples of what I think can be effective and also not distract others. But too many teachers were traumatised by multiple kids twirling loud spinnakers as they tried to read shakespeare
@TTRadioOfficial I used to think UK teachers were highly prized overseas due to their skills and expertise. Increasingly, I think it is because of their work ethic. A bit like Eastern European tradespeople.
@rorysutherland A clothes rental website for individuals! What an idea. £20 to wear Rory's trousers! Other items are available...
If this idea isn't already out there, it's mine!
Though I cant be bothered to turn it into reality, I'll franchise at 5%. I'll call it... Linted!
@DonaldClark This is moat and bailey, trying to imply that if you fight enshitification, are worried that AI is out of control, that Bigtech is reckless, then you want to return to 1980s! When what you actually want is to recapture and realise the promise of the internet in early 000s.
@MrDanielBuck The first test is, will you spot that this cartoon doesn't make sense?
I failed that one, 20 years ago.
The second test is, when someone points out that it makes no sense, and why, will you accept this?
I passed this one. But many people don't.
I guess they must be different...
@matttillotson@BrianRoemmele Good points, but it's not the "messaging". You have stated some of the industry objectives. People, unsurprisingly, don't want them.
