Anti-choice GOP presidents and candidates have been sending their wives out to say pro-choice things before elections since Barbara & George H.W. Bush pulled this in 1988. George H.W. Bush appointed Clarence Thomas. Roe is gone and women are dying in part because enough voters fell for this shit. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SHIT. Every step of the way to overturning Roe just enough voters told themselves that abortion wasn’t really on the line because the First Lady was pro-choice. Sure, Republicans campaigned against Roe and promised to overturn Roe and appointed justices who were committed to overturning Roe — and willing to lie to the Judiciary Committee — but they wouldn’t actually overturn Roe because they didn’t want to cross Barbara Bush. And here we are. Nancy Reagan was pro-choice. Barbara Bush was pro-choice. Elizabeth Dole was pro-choice. Barbara Bush II was pro-choice. Cindy McCain was pro-choice. Ann Romney was pro-choice. It doesn’t matter what the First Lady thinks or pretends to think about abortion. It never mattered. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SHIT.

And do you think Donald Trump gives a shit what Melania suddenly claims to think about a woman’s right to bodily autonomy? Do you think that makes a difference to her husband, the adjudicated rapist? Do you think Melania Trump would still be married to Donald Trump if she gave a single, solitary shit about the bodily autonomy of women? And do you think it’s a coincidence that her ghost-written book came out four weeks before the election?

And don’t tell yourself it doesn’t matter now — don’t tell yourself you can “safely” vote Republican — because Roe is already overturned so it can’t get any worse. IT CAN AND IT WILL. They will ban abortion nationwide. They will ban birth control. They will ban IVF.
