When hospitals keep their tax breaks but keep raising prices, families and businesses suffer. It’s time for the legislature to restore balance to this broken system.

As House Bill 1004 returns to the House from the Senate—heavily amended and now under consideration in conference committee—Hoosiers for Affordable Healthcare is releasing the following statement:
Show of hands, has anyone else received a bogus “nursery” charge on their hospital bill? 🙋♀️
We’ve heard stories about women like Ashlee and others charged for “nursery” service, even though their baby stayed in their room the whole time.
Senate Bill 3 is headed to the Governor’s desk!
Here’s what it does:
👉 Requires companies that help manage health plans and prescription drug benefits (TPAs and PBMs) to act in the best interest of the employer that hires them.
In other words, they can’t just look out for themselves or make deals that benefit their own bottom line. ✅
Under SB 3, they are legally required to put the employer’s needs first and manage the health plan responsibly and fairly—like a financial advisor would be expected to act with your best interests in mind.

How much would you expect to pay for sitting in a hallway on a gurney?
For one Hoosier, it was more than $4,000—before being admitted. Total bill: $18,701.30.
This is why we fight for transparency and fairness.
When Indiana manufacturers say high hospital prices are a barrier to growth and competitiveness, we should listen. #PassHB1004
