Ibn ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله said:

There are two ways of seeking Allah's forgiveness:

First: By asking for it directly with your words, such as saying, "O Allah, forgive me," or "Astaghfirullāh."

Second: By performing righteous deeds that bring about forgiveness, as the Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever says, 'Subḥānallāhi wa biḥamdih' one hundred times in a day will have his sins forgiven, even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea."

🕌 The Remedy for the Sinning Soul through Sincere Istighfar

Abu Hurairah (R.A) reported that the Prophet (pbuh) narrated from his Lord, the Exalted and Glorious, saying: A servant committed a sin and said: O Allah, forgive my sin. Allah the Exalted and Glorious said: My servant committed a sin and he realized that he has a Lord who forgives the sins and punishes for the sin. Then he again committed a sin and said: My Lord, forgive my sin. Allah the Exalted and Glorious said: My servant committed a sin and he realized that he has a Lord who forgives the sin and punishes for the sin. Then he again committed a sin and said: My Lord, forgive my sin. Allah the Exalted and Glorious said: My servant committed a sin and he realized that he has a Lord who forgives the sin and punishes for the sin. I have granted forgiveness to My servant, so let him do what he likes. This indicates that as long as the servant acknowledges his fault and turns back to Allah in sincere regret, the gates of mercy remain wide open for him, for Allah is the Most Merciful and the Oft-Forgiving to those who seek His pardon after every transgression.
