The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday rejected claims that French Embassy staff in the country had been intimidated, slamming the allegation as "baseless" and calling on #France to be held accountable for its interventionist conduct toward #Iran.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said French nationals had attended a meeting with several security suspects on Sunday evening, July 18, where the two individuals were briefly questioned by security officers, according to a report received by the relevant authorities.

According to the reports, numerous documents indicating anti-security activities were found at the site, while the relevant authorities are currently investigating the matter.

The Foreign Ministry said the two individuals were transferred to the diplomatic police headquarters after law enforcement officers learned that they were affiliated with the French Embassy in Tehran. They were later handed over to the embassy following coordination with the Foreign Ministry and communication with the French ambassador.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that the unlawful conduct of two French Embassy employees constitutes a violation of the host country's laws and the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

It said that "rather than evading accountability, the French Foreign Minister should be held accountable for the undiplomatic conduct of two employees of his country's embassy in #Tehran".

The ministry also said the French Foreign Minister's claim that the two employees were engaged in assisting "civil society" points to interference in Iran's domestic affairs and contradicts the traditional role of French diplomatic missions in the country.
