A selection of #DutchIJ's, spotted during a visit at the Kruideniers Museum in Utrecht - specialist grocery stores originally for 'dry' food. Grocers were small independent entrepreneurs. At the end of the 19th century the pre-packaged, factory made, branded product was born.

Some tiles are printed, or cut, with an offset and unfortunately both #DutchIJ's are affected, which cuts off their descending /J tail. I suspect these tiles are not original, as commonly these were made out of wood.

Very happy to have found this Dutch junior scrabble boardgame, including the #DutchIJ. I knew these existed but never came across one, until last week. This particular edition is from 1956 and contains a double-sided board, one for ages 5-6 and from 7 and up.

The game includes two #DutchIJ's tiles. Note that the alphabet order finishes with /X /IJ /Z and does not contain the letter /Y.
The #DutchIJ's are beautifully illustrated on the board in the words IJSKAR (ice cream truck) and RADIJSJE (radice).
