Troops Arrest Suspected Berom Militia Member After Failed Targeted Attack in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have taken into custody a suspected Berom militia member following an alleged failed attempt by armed men to attack a residence in Sabon Layi area of Barkin Ladi town, Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday night, Oct. 8, when the armed men allegedly attempted to raid a house and attacked one of the residents.

Sources said local vigilantes in the area intervened, apprehending one of the suspects while others reportedly escaped.
The arrested suspect was subsequently handed over to troops of Alpha Company stationed in Barkin Ladi town for further action.

The circumstances surrounding the attempted attack, including the condition of the resident who was assaulted, were not immediately clear.

Two tipper crew members killed in isolated sporadic shooting by Militia in Plateau

Two men have been killed in an isolated sporadic shooting by local militia elements in the Gero area of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 when troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), deployed at Gero, responded to a report of sporadic shooting on high ground in the area.

The troops, upon arrival at the location, discovered two corpses identified as Mr Sani Mohammed and Mr Luka Bature, 50, both bearing gunshot wounds.

The deceased were reportedly the driver and conductor of a tipper vehicle.

Their remains were evacuated to a mortuary, while troops commenced offensive operations and a manhunt for the assailants.

Security forces are continuing efforts to track down those responsible for the attack.

These are stories of Fulani communities that many people would never want the public to see.

Local militias raid their homes, burn houses, steal valuables and livestock, and sometimes slaughter the stolen animals to make pepper soup and sell those that were rustled, occasionally with the knowledge or cooperation of people in the host communities. Then everyone goes back to business as usual and pretends as if nothing happened.

But when some victims eventually retaliate after repeated attacks, the script suddenly changes. It is then that you will start hearing labels like they are Islamist terrorists allegedly bent on wiping out Christians and hoisting their flag in our land. Which flag, bro? You guys are thieves.

The painful reality of the Plateau crisis is that violence rarely begins in a vacuum. Every incident has a history, a trigger and root causes. Anyone telling you this is simply a religious war is lying to you. Anyone telling you that someone was planning to come and chase you out and take over your land is lying to you. They are arming you with propaganda in order to continue fighting and hating each other.

Much of what is happening is criminality being weaponized along ethnic and religious lines, and ordinary civilians on all sides are paying the price. While the criminals just walk away.

The irony of the matter is that some people are hell-bent on cashing out on the crises. Every day, we see NGOs making appeals for the people they term persecuted Christians in Nigeria, but how much have they given back to the people? Some of those communities were among the most underdeveloped.

This is why it is very easy for your politicians to hide under the guise of championing your cause to continue to win elections without doing anything. Likewise, the state government. Have they built good schools and hospitals? How many people have they lifted from poverty? What are the programmes initiated to get the youths involved in meaningful activities rather than engaging in mining and alcoholism, thuggery or criminality?

Few people are cashing out on the crises in the international community while telling you to endure, hoping that they will come one day to help you chased out the Fulan’s. When will you start asking simple questions like? If the international community claims they really care about us, why haven’t they acted despite all the reporter killings?

How Berom Militia Attack Fulani Traders in Mass Shooting Along Bukuru Expressway, Plateau

Suspected Berom militia reportedly opened fire on a vehicle conveying Fulani traders returning from Kara Market along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one person and injuring seven others.

The attack occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, around the Total Filling Station Roundabout, Bukuru, when the open-body vehicle carrying about 20 passengers came under sporadic gunfire.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), deployed in Bukuru, responded to the shooting and found eight victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, identified as Musa Abubakar, was confirmed dead, while Ibrahim Aliyu, Abdullahi Aliyu, Abdullahi Saidu, Abdussalam Saidu, Faisal Gambo, Abdussalam Yau and Adam Umar sustained injuries.

The victims were evacuated to the 3 Division Hospital for medical treatment, while security personnel launched efforts to track down the fleeing attackers.

The Plateau State Police Command also confirmed the shooting, saying preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was conveying traders returning from Kara Market.

The Command said seven injured victims had so far been traced to the Military Clinic at Rukuba Barracks, where they were receiving treatment.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Investigations to take full charge of the investigation and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
