Ch. 49: From Seju’s perspective, the most heartbreaking part of this scene isn’t even Sumin accusing her of sleeping with Nammi. It’s what comes after.

When Sumin yells, “Because you always disappoint me!”, that always must hurt.

Because Seju is standing there telling her, “I didn’t sleep with her.” But Sumin’s response shows that this is no longer only about Nammi. The moment another person is involved, Seju feels like Sumin immediately returns her to the same version of her from the past, the Seju who hurt and disappointed her.

And that’s why Seju finally says:

“I’ve been here for 10 years, yet you can’t even see how I am right now.” 😭

Seju isn’t asking Sumin to forget her past or pretend she never made mistakes. She’s asking something much sadder:

“After 10 years, can’t you see who I am NOW instead of only seeing who I USED TO BE?”

For me, that’s the real pain behind this conversation. Seju isn’t only hurt because Sumin doesn’t believe her. She’s hurt because she feels completely unseen.

No matter how long she’s been there.
No matter what has changed.
No matter what she says now.

Sumin still seems to measure her through her past.

And then Seju reaches her limit:

“I’M HUMAN TOO, SUMIN.”

😭😭😭

Because Seju has spent so much of their relationship being seen as the one who hurts Sumin, disappoints Sumin, and causes Sumin pain that she finally has to remind Sumin of something so painfully basic:

Seju can be hurt too.

She can be exhausted.
She can be falsely accused.
She can feel pain when the person she has loved for 10 years refuses to see who she is right now.

Maybe that’s why this scene hurts me so much as a Seju apologist.

Seju isn’t asking to be seen as perfect. She’s just asking Sumin to finally see her as a human being. 😭
