From Seju’s perspective, this scene from Ch 72 shows a rare moment where her emotional defenses come down completely.

She is not questioning whether she loves Sumin, she is questioning whether their love can truly survive forever. Her uncertainty comes from knowing that feelings can change and that the person she loves most could someday become distant, resentful, or no longer love her.

The scene also reveals how deeply important Sumin is to Seju. Seju reaches a point where she cannot even fully articulate what she is feeling. Her unfinished thought shows that this is no longer an intellectual concern, it has become genuine emotional fear.

What makes this particularly meaningful from a Seju-apologist perspective is that Seju is vulnerable without trying to control the situation. And for once, Seju doesn’t have to be the person carrying the emotional burden.

Ch.64 (part 2) is exactly why I will forever be a Seju apologist because THIS woman finally says everything she should’ve said years ago, only to realize she arrived at the conversation too late. 😭🩷

She isn’t asking Sumin to forget what happened. She isn’t pretending she did nothing wrong. She knows exactly what she did and wishes she could go back and change it.

That’s Seju looking at the past and thinking, if I had another chance, I would do it differently.

And then she finally says the words she spent years struggling to say:

“I love you.”

NO DEFLECTION.
NO SARCASM.
NO HIDING.

Just “I love you.”

And Sumin’s response?

“You should have said it sooner.”

THAT LINE DESTROYS ME.

Because Seju’s biggest problem was never that she didn’t love Sumin.

She loved her so much that she was terrified of losing her.

When Sumin needed Seju to hold on, Seju thought holding on would make Sumin angry and drive her away.

So she let go.

She thought giving Sumin freedom was protecting their relationship.

Meanwhile Sumin was basically screaming internally, “WHY AREN’T YOU STOPPING ME?”

THEY WERE BOTH TERRIFIED AND BOTH WAITING FOR THE OTHER PERSON TO SAY IT FIRST😭

And then Sumin drops the most devastating confession:

“I didn’t want to acknowledge that I still loved you.”

EXCUSE ME???

So Seju spent all those years thinking she had lost Sumin…

only to find out Sumin was still fighting against her own feelings for her.

The love wasn’t dead.

It was buried under resentment, guilt, fear, pride, and everything they had done to each other.

And Seju just goes silent.

Because what is she supposed to say to that?

“I knew you loved me”?
“Then come back”?
“You should have told me”?
There is literally nothing left to say.

She can’t bargain with time anymore.
She can’t undo what happened.
She can’t go back to the moment where everything broke and choose differently.

And then Sumin says they were “cowards that never even ended things properly.”

THAT is the tragedy.

Not “we never loved each other.”
Not “you meant nothing to me.”
Not “I stopped loving you.”

They loved each other.

They were just terrible at confronting what that love actually required from them.

And YES, Seju made huge mistakes. I will never pretend she didn’t.

But Ch.64 makes the “Seju didn’t care” reading impossible for me.

THIS WOMAN WANTED TO GO BACK.

She wanted another chance.
She wanted to fix what she broke.
She finally admitted she loved Sumin.
She finally admitted she had been afraid.

And Sumin finally admitted she still loved her too.

THE TIMING IS THE TRAGEDY.

Seju didn’t lose Sumin because there was no love.

She lost her because by the time she finally learned how to say “please stay,” ten years of damage had already happened.

And THAT is why “you should have said it sooner” is basically Seju’s entire tragedy compressed into one sentence.

She loved Sumin.
She was afraid.
She made mistakes.
She let go when she should’ve held on.
And when she finally learned to hold on…
Sumin had already learned how to let go. 🩷
