Almost all my Christian life, I have relied on the promise that we get in the letter of James, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” And if we don’t actually draw near to Him, then we don’t have that promise. —Sinclair Ferguson https://t.co/MIPqtZ00un
Text from a friend in his 80s whose wife of nearly 60 years suffers with dementia and other health issues. They are in one of the hardest chapters of their lives. He closed: “This is what the Lord has for me now and I am content.”
Oh, that we could say that in every season.
My 11yo daughter: "Dad, why don't we sing Elevation Worship songs?"
Me: Plays her the 90-second WWUTT video where Steven Furtick called himself "I am God Almighty!" and preached that God told Moses, "You are as I am."
Her: ...........Yyyyeeeahhh... That's messed up.
How to develop a discipline of restrained speech...
Scripture warns about saying a lot and doing so rashly.
It associates “restrained words” with a “cool spirit.”
- “Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.” Pr 17:27
- “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” Pr 10:19
Conversely, it associates those who speak with “rash words” or “hasty words” with being a foolish and violent man.
- “There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Pr 12:18
- “Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” Pr 29:20
The unrestrained foolish speaker is presented as someone who is eager to share his opinions on all matters but they are rarely words that impart anything truly helpful.
- “A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.” Pr 18:2
- “Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge.” Pr 14:7
How do you develop this discipline?
Here are three actions (I'm sure there are others):
Pray
I've found that anxious and overly talkative people have a weak prayer life. Their verbosity is rooted in a need to work issues out loud. This can be temperamental to a degree. We all process things differently. Some do it externally through talking it out. But talk it out with God first in prayer. You'll find when you talk to others that you have less anxiety and tend to be more restrained.
Meditate
Take time to chew your food. Study an issue from multiple perspectives. Think about it for days, weeks, and months. You'll find that you are less inclined to confidently and rashly air your opinions and positions. And when you do they’ll be more refined and, consequently, helpful.
Observe
Watch how men with decades of proven wisdom speak, not just men who have sounded wise for a few years. Learn from them. Imitate them where you can. If he is the kind of man you hope to become, you’ll learn when to speak, when to stay quiet, and when to weigh your words very carefully.
To be clear, there is definitely a time to speak up.
And just because someone’s words have some roughness or a few barbs doesn’t mean they come from a man without self-control. Sometimes the situation requires exactly that.
But a good craftsman knows which tool fits the job. The same is true of speech.
The virgin birth is significant because sin is covenantally passed down through human fathers. Jesus did not have a human father, so that he would not inherit Adam’s sin nature—so that he could be sinless. Only a sinless Messiah can save us from our sins.
Air Force Brigadier General Christopher Sage faces unjust termination at the end of this month for his common sense courage during the COVID-Biden era madness. There are apparently still some bad apples in the Air Force who are refusing to comply with @SecWar’s clear instructions.
This article needs to go viral. Please get this word out to help Brigadier General Christopher Sage. We have until December 31st!!!! https://t.co/OyUn0u7mI9
I wanna piggyback off of this excellent post & say that the wisdom here applies to your children as well.
The other day I owed an apology to my 9 year old. I was not patient with her. My words were short, my face was unkind (yes I do believe we need to apologize for our demeanor when necessary!).
So I looked her in the eye and I said, “I was not being kind or patient with you when [insert situation here]. I feel terrible about that because I was sinning against you and I love you so much but I didn’t act like it in that moment. I loved myself more. I should have been patient and I should have been kind. I wronged you in failing to do that. You don’t have to pretend like I didn’t just because I’m your mom. I know I hurt your feelings. I need your forgiveness. Will you please forgive me?”
Here’s the thing we often forget about our children - they tend to be very cheerful forgivers. Even my three year old hugs me with joy when I say “I’m sorry, please forgive me.” My daughter was so quick to hug me and say she forgives me. Their hearts are naturally bent towards us and I really believe that when they see us walking in repentance, they are bent towards us even more readily.
I want my children to obey the 5th commandment and I want to make it easy for them to do so.
🚨 PLEASE LISTEN
I am tagging just as she asked, and I would ask all of you to please repost and tag …this needs to be done ASAP!

Charlie Kirk assassinated at 31 years old.
The question he was answering from the audience member was, “Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?”
Honestly, I’m angry. “O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! (Psa 58:6)
Yes, the God-hating wicked have breached the walls and overtaken our innocent. The left loves violence and perversion.
But, I guess I’m just as angry, maybe more, that America is suffocating under the cowardice of weak, effeminate men. The watchmen have been asleep. And even worse, they made alliances with our enemies.
Strong men, who dare to defend the Christian and traditional foundations of this nation, are mocked, slandered, threatened, and destroyed. I see it every day. Especially at the Capitol and in religious circles. We are living in a time when those who stand firm are targeted, while those who bend and bow are celebrated and funded.
History warns and Scripture confirms, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” When justice is delayed, evil takes the throne.
“Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil” (Ecclesiastes ). Delay and weakness empower wickedness.
For too long, men have sat silently on the sidelines while godless parasites seized power. Some even drape themselves in the name of Christ to sanctify their corruption, baptizing lawlessness with pious words. Hypocrits and cowards embolden evil.
Where are the warriors, Christian men of conviction holding firm to Scripture and putting themselves on the line for justice and love for neighbor? If you do not see one around you, or even in the mirror, then you must resolve to become one. Seek them out. Stand with them. Rally under their banner. Begin now to steel your family for the storm at our doorstep. Neutrality and hesitation are no longer options.
The time for hesitation is over. Choose now. Every sign screams we’re close to a breaking point.
My prayer is that it begins with repentance. Men must fall to their knees and confess that we have belittled the name of Christ, been self-serving instead of zealous for His glory, abandoned our neighbors, and betrayed the innocent to wolves. We have allowed evildoers to roam free without fear of swift judgment, and we have refused to wield the sword of justice that God entrusted to civil authority.
America once unapologetically wielded strength. Swift, visible, public justice cut down wickedness before it spread. The guilty trembled, and the innocent walked in safety.
It is time to return to iron-fisted accountability, to reestablish public executions and shame, and to confront wickedness with the justice it deserves.
Men, the call is clear. Look yourself in the eye. Are you rotting in apathy while dark forces scheme to obliterate your family, your church, and your legacy? Or will you rise? No more excuses. No more delays. The future of America and our children’s future depends upon the strength, resolve, and courage of men willing to lead.
Rise. Take up your place. Lead with conviction. Be the gospel-preaching, justice wielding warriors this nation now requires.
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong” (1Cor ).
I want the internet outrage to please please please cause someone that can do something righteous about this to do something. That sweet baby. Someone save him. Lord have mercy!
“Instead of saying straight is the gate and narrow is the way … we’ve said ‘just give your heart to Jesus.’” -Ray Comfort on false doctrine perverting the gospel.
Christian Ladies,
If you love your sister in Christ, you’ll tell her not to wear that bikini.
Modesty can & must be taught.
Christian pastors should teach on the subject of modesty, certainly.
But on an interpersonal level, older, wiser, more spiritually mature Christian women should lovingly correct and guide their little sisters in the faith.
Modesty is an incredibly important virtue to cultivate in our feministic, hyper sexualized culture, and Christian ladies, you have an incredibly valuable role to play in discipling the next generation of Christian women in modesty (Titus 2:3-5).
