"Studies proving the Werther Effect have shown that when suicide-related reports include the 'when & how', there will be similar suicide cases soon after" @Melisa_Idris asks @mediha_m about @mycontentforum's guidelines for reporting suicide #ConsiderThis https://t.co/nbCllsD4QB
"Content Forum's new guidelines on ethical reporting & sharing of suicide-related content also affects influencers. We're working with content creators on training about ethical influencing" @Melisa_Idris speaks with @mediha_m@mycontentforum#ConsiderThis https://t.co/nbCllsDCG9
I had the privilege of sharing Malaysia’s suicide prevention efforts including the Suicide Content Guidelines initiative at #IASP2025 in Vienna yesterday.
Didn’t expect the response to be this heartwarming. Grateful, floored, and still processing.
I first participated in IASP Kuching 2017 and since then the Malaysian representation has grown. It is testament to the partnerships and evidence-based suicide prevention work we do in 🇲🇾.
Do catch some of us today at #IASP2025 if you wanna know more and collaborate:

Reports should acknowledge loved ones' grief, avoid sensationalism, and focus on the person's life, not the manner of death, says Fahmi.
He says the guidelines apply to both mainstream and social media.

The guidelines say print stories on deaths by suicide should be placed inside, preferably at the bottom left of the page.
They advise against marking exact locations or labelling them as hotspots, warning this could turn places into known death by suicide sites.
🧵3
The guidelines say that, for print and online portals, suicide-related stories should not appear on front pages or homepages.
For TV and online broadcasts, such coverage should air only after the second or third break.

The Communications Ministry has launched the world’s first Guidelines for Reporting and Sharing Suicide-Related Content.
Minister Fahmi Fadzil urges journalists to avoid explicit details, descriptions, and images when reporting on deaths by suicide.

In another @kucseas learning about use of #ArtificialIntelligence for initial qualitative analysis. How creative and how helpful that would have been with the thousands words I had to analyze for my #qualitative#research
