The idea of starting a business shouldn’t always be primarily about making more money… this sounds financially smart in this context (maybe) but everything isn’t about making more money.

[Babjídé @Babajiide]

When you have $700k, don’t go and start a business; only <5% of businesses succeed. With income like that, you want to put the money to work! That’s 980m; with that, what you need to do is sit on it for the first 1/2 years at a 15% annual return (147m), then start to put your 147m/pa to work. What happens to people when they hit such money is they start to jump into lifestyle upgrades. Those that work for it gradually typically have an advantage of some structure set before making such an amount so they aren’t starting from the base. So if I have $700k today what will I do ?

- Invest it into multiple instruments aiming at a minimum of 15%.
- After the first year of full investment return, start to upgrade my life. Remember now your 147m is straight spend.
- Take an MRIEF loan at 9% PA for 5-10 years and buy a house in a decent area.
Once the above structure is set! Then you can start to live and upgrade your life on the rest.

Now before you come and argue, really think to yourself if you know what 147m a year straight spend is!

the deeper i go into programming the more i realize that almost everything is just data flow: if you can figure out how the data should flow, you nail 80% of it.

Python devs made the smartest marketing move humanity ever knew by saying

“You can prototype in Python, and then rewrite to whatever you want”

They knew economics of software way too well, prototypes are never getting rewritten, it’s too costly.

This sums it up properly 👌

I see lots of arguments against free will but If there’s a lag btw your body and the brain doesn’t that explain free will, in those micro-seconds the body might decide to abort if the explanation for the action is not desirable. I’d imagine, that‘s the point of self-explanation

Most interesting thing about the Lex Neuralink podcast is one of the guys describes that when the Neuralink subject moves a cursor on a screen, it actually moves before he expects it to, almost before he tries to move it

@UBACares Can you please respond to my dm?

ship something shitty to validate an idea is the worst advice and it has not worked in a very long time

we are not in 2010 anymore - something is not better than nothing, there’s infinite software in the world

the bar is extremely high, people just haven’t realized it

@British_Airways I booked a flight on BA website. The amount was deducted from my Credit Card and the credit card says the payment has been authorized on their own end but probably hasn’t been authorized on yours. Please I need this fixed

almost all the advice i read on here is too specific and usually the opposite advice is also true

most things just boil down to “have good judgement” and there’s no tutorial for that

@NinoB @dklineii This right here! Proper context has to be given.

@xylemic This is a perfect explanation of good software engineering.

You quoted Leslie Lamport, was this from a talk or a book? If yes, and you don’t mind sharing a link to the resources, I’ll appreciate it.

Thanks

If someone told you only a few weeks ago that Iran would be at war, you would have guessed Israel, the US, or perhaps Saudi Arabia; not Pakistan.
It is very, very hard to keep in mind that we're not good at predicting & even harder to incorporate it into a general policy.

[no one 😇 @hacknEmate]

@xylemic Of course, something has to give 😅
