@FellowscourtE2 All horrendous but very happy to hear folks are safe!!!
I'm doing a community food shop tomorrow and can bring some stuff down afterwards if helpful?
And let's chat more about getting Hackney Council to fix this mess asap in the next days!
@FellowscourtE2 Just got the news. Do residents need anything from the local community? Thinking food, teas, blankets, phone top ups etc?
Tonight let's get everyone safe. And tomorrow let's get answers!
In May, section 21 will be banned. But the government has done nothing to stop families like this being forced out of their homes and communities by rising rents.
Ending section 21 was just the start. Now it's time to bring down the rents.
“While millions struggle to pay rent or live in temporary accommodation, overseas investors chase short-term profits with expensive build-to-rent developments that price out local people."
We need rent controls and council homes, not wall street vultures raiding our communities.
Elderly people pushed into homelessness.
Whether young or old, currently in work or not, our lives are being wrecked by a system designed to enrich the few.
We must fight to cut the rent and put homes back in public hands.
Government looks more and more likely to miss its 1.5m housebuilding target. Private developers are unable or unwilling to fix a housing crisis that they benefit from.
Just like after WW2, we need rent controls and a massive publicly funded council house programme.
From housing to utilities, profiteering is destroying our lives.
We pay sky-high rents for some of the coldest and leakiest homes in Europe while landlords and energy bosses get rich.
Together, we have the power to win a system that puts our needs first.
🙌 EVICTION STOPPED! 💪
💥 Tenants out this morning in the rain at 7am preventing a family with young children being evicted!
🤝 We're going to see lots of evictions over the winter before the law changes in May. We must come together to defend each other from homelessness.
If you want to learn how to stop evictions like this, just come along to a meeting - we meet every single Monday evening in Forest Gate at the Old Spotted Dog Football Ground, 6.30-9pm. We talk about our housing issues, make plans to fight them and eat some delicious food.
🎥 HOSTILE HOUSING screening + talk!
Join @hackneyLRU members for a special screening of a documentary about London's housing crisis - made by tenants living through it.

Labour government logic:
Buying up tickets you don't need and reselling them at exploitatively high prices for profit. Bad 👎
Buying up homes you don't need and renting them out at exploitatively high prices for profit. Good👍
Section 21 eviction ABOLISHED 1 May 2026.
This is a huge victory for organised tenants. But the government has left us unprotected over the Winter.
We must get organised and defend each other from homelessness. Once S21 is history, we can push forward for rent controls.
"Stop listening to landlords."
LRU member Joe on BBC Radio London yesterday talking about the Renters' Rights Act and why the government needs to start putting ordinary renters before landlord profits.
🏆 WORST landlord of the year nominee!
⚠️ Our member fell through the bathroom floor. Then the landlord served a section 21 eviction notice, followed by an enormous rent increase!
It's time for the landlord Andrew Harvey - a councillor in Kent - to sort it out!
