🚨 AI-Driven Exploit Chains: Claude Research Model Targets 5 Major Platforms

Anthropic has demonstrated how an internal Claude research model can turn multiple individual vulnerabilities into working, multi-stage exploits across widely used browsers and operating systems. The findings highlight a major shift in AI-assisted security research: AI can go beyond identifying bugs to chaining them into sophisticated attacks.

🔍 5 Attack Chains, 5 Platforms
1⃣Chrome: Chained memory corruption and sandbox escape flaws to achieve code execution beyond the browser sandbox.
2⃣Safari: Bypassed the Same-Origin Policy (SOP), potentially exposing browsing data, cookies, and authenticated sessions.
3⃣Android (Pixel): Bypassed lock-screen protections to extract personal data from a locked device via USB.
4⃣Windows: Remote denial of service through HTTP/3 QUIC, tracked as CVE-2026-33096.
5⃣Linux Kernel: Zero-click remote root code execution via a race-condition use-after-free vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-98432.

⚠️ Key Takeaway
AI-assisted vulnerability research is evolving from discovering individual flaws to building end-to-end exploit chains. One bug is a risk. Chained together, multiple bugs can become a serious threat. AI is raising the stakes.

🚨WordPress Core Unauthenticated RCE Exploit Chain
 (wp2shell: CVE‑2026‑63030 + CVE‑2026‑60137)

Two chained vulnerabilities within WordPress core enable unauthenticated remote attackers to achieve full remote‑code‑execution. No plugins, themes or user interaction are required.

CVE‑2026‑63030 is an array‑desync flaw in the REST API /wp‑json/batch/v1 batch processor, bypassing schema validation and permission checks for subsequent sub‑requests. Combined with CVE‑2026‑60137, an SQL‑injection vulnerability in the author__not_in parameter, attackers can poison object cache, create rogue administrator accounts and upload executable files for RCE. Public exploits are available and active in‑the‑wild exploitation has been observed.

🔍 Affected Versions
WordPress 6.9.0‑6.9.4 & 7.0.0‑7.0.1: Full RCE exploit‑chain
WordPress 6.8.0‑6.8.5: Only SQL injection (CVE‑2026‑60137)
WordPress 7.1 Beta 1: Both vulnerabilities present
Priority: All internet‑facing WordPress sites should be prioritized for inspection and patching.

🛡️ Mitigation
Upgrade WordPress core to fixed releases: 6.8.6 / 6.9.5 / 7.0.2 / 7.1 Beta 2.
Verify the actual running core version on each instance.
Audit database for unexpected administrator accounts and inspect for newly added malicious PHP files.
WAF rules may serve as temporary compensating controls and cannot replace official patching.

🔐 Cybersecurity Intelligence | This Week

AI-driven attacks, actively exploited kernel vulnerabilities, and the changing role of security professionals — here are four developments worth watching:

1️⃣ Autonomous AI attacks are no longer theoretical
The July 2026 Hugging Face incident demonstrated that autonomous AI agents can chain vulnerabilities, execute thousands of actions at machine speed, and compromise real infrastructure. The incident highlights a key lesson for defenders: AI-enabled threats still require strong foundational security controls, isolation, monitoring, and access management.
https://t.co/dPdSbtJ4KP

2️⃣ CISA flags three actively exploited Linux Kernel vulnerabilities
CISA added three Linux Kernel vulnerabilities to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, including CVE-2025-39682 (CVSS 9.8), CVE-2026-53266 (CVSS 8.8), and CVE-2025-39964 (CVSS 7.8). Federal agencies were given until September 21 to remediate and conduct forensic triage.
https://t.co/3FVBVWXGkv

3️⃣ AI-assisted vulnerability research is becoming more capable
Security researchers recently demonstrated how AI-assisted vulnerability research could be used to chain vulnerabilities and compromise OpenAI employee accounts in under 72 hours. The research highlighted risks around shared SSO infrastructure and image-processing components and resulted in responsible disclosure and a bug bounty.
https://t.co/JpDyoqwU3d

4️⃣ Ransomware is moving toward AI infrastructure
As organizations increasingly depend on AI models, datasets, vector databases, and compute infrastructure, these assets are becoming potential targets for extortion. This raises a new challenge: traditional backup strategies may not be enough for AI-specific workloads.
https://t.co/mvj8nrfz9V

The bigger picture?
AI is changing both sides of the cybersecurity equation — from how vulnerabilities are discovered to what attackers target.

🔥Windows ALPC Privilege Escalation Vulnerability (CVE-2026-85880)

A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Windows ALPC (Advanced Local Procedure Call) could allow an authorized attacker to escalate privileges locally.

An attacker who has already gained standard user privileges or low-privileged code execution could exploit this vulnerability to ultimately obtain SYSTEM-level privileges.

Affected Systems:
- Multiple supported versions of Windows client and Windows Server.

Mitigation:
- Install the September 2026 cumulative security updates through Windows Update, WSUS, Microsoft Configuration Manager, or other supported channels.
- After updating, verify the patch installation status and reboot affected hosts.
- As the vulnerability is reportedly being exploited in the wild, organizations should also investigate for suspicious SYSTEM processes, scheduled tasks, service creation, and account changes.

🚨GitLab Path Traversal Vulnerability Could Lead to Remote Code Execution (CVE-2026-10053)

GitLab has addressed a path traversal vulnerability in the Package Registry that could allow an authenticated user to achieve remote code execution (RCE) under certain conditions.

🔍Affected Versions:
18.8 ≤ version < 19.0.6
19.1 ≤ version < 19.1.4
19.2 ≤ version < 19.2.2

🛡️ Mitigation
Upgrade immediately to:
GitLab 19.0.6
GitLab 19.1.4
GitLab 19.2.2
Or a later supported security release

If an immediate upgrade is not possible:
Restrict Package Registry upload permissions and API access.
Temporarily disable the Package Registry if it is not required for business operations.
Review recent package uploads for suspicious activity, unexpected files, and unusual processes launched by GitLab service accounts.

🔐 If you’re running an affected GitLab version, prioritize patching and review your environment for potential exploitation.

🎯【AI & Security】What Happens When the Attacker Is an AI Agent?

An AI agent changes the dynamics of an attack.
It can continuously observe its environment, reason about what it sees, take action, evaluate the outcome, and decide what to do next.
We may know the objective — but not necessarily the path it will take to achieve it.

And that changes how we think about offensive security.
The question is no longer simply: “Can the attacker exploit this vulnerability?”
It becomes: “What can an autonomous system do when it can discover and connect multiple weaknesses on its own?”

A low-impact vulnerability can become significantly more dangerous when an agent can chain it with:
Misconfiguration → Credential Access → Privilege Escalation → Internal Discovery → Lateral Movement

The real risk may not lie in any single step.
It may lie in the connections between them.
The challenge isn't just securing individual vulnerabilities.
It's securing the attack paths an autonomous agent can create between them.

What do you think?
