Qusay believes social media is good, ‘people should be aware of what is happening in the world’ and that ‘sometimes it’s right to influence people’. He argues that people should develop literacy to become ‘immune to the social media companies nies’ influence’
Yomna claps back to Qusay as she passionately gestures with her hands. She argues that humans are curious creatures that we are ‘easily influenced’ and social media companies play on this.
‘You make a very interesting connection between capitalism and emotions’ President of CASAR tells Yomna with a smile on his face. He makes an observation that she constantly refers to our emotions as products for social media companies.
Ibrahim,another student agrees that media does more harm than good. ‘the fact is meta is one of the largest system, they have engineered a system which profits ok our attention’ He explains ‘ instagram is a money making machine and does not care for its users’ wellbeing’
Yomna begins her argument by proposing a question to the audience regarding what platforms they use . ‘Social media tells us false news we believe is true, and we act on it’ She emphasises that we have our own opinions thus making most the information on social media biased.
Ali immediately claps back to Yomna and raises his voice to point out that humans should not be easily influence ‘no one forced you to download the apps’
Amina responds to Ali and Yomna and begins a medical argument . ‘we are talking about neuroplasticity, people know that you will feel rewarded when you get a like’ Ali attempts to interrupt her, and she firmly says he can reply once she is done.
Norya, a Auc student argues that there is so much more importance to social media ‘looking at social media from a surface level would be. a very selfish way to look at ignores its bettering of the world’
