How Badly Do You Want to Succeed?
I once heard a powerful story shared by Eric Thomas that completely changed the way I think about success.
A young man dreamed of becoming a millionaire. One day, he approached a wealthy man and asked:
“How can I become rich?”
The wealthy man replied, “Do you really want to be successful? If you do, meet me at the beach tomorrow at 4:00 AM.”
The young man was confused. “I want to become rich, not learn how to swim!”
But he showed up the next morning.
The wealthy man led him into the ocean. They walked deeper and deeper until the water reached their heads.
Suddenly, the wealthy man pushed the young man’s head underwater.
The young man struggled desperately, fighting with everything he had to get back to the surface.
Finally, the wealthy man pulled him out.
Angry and gasping for air, the young man shouted, “Why did you do that? I told you I wanted to become rich!”
The wealthy man calmly asked:
“What was the only thing you wanted when you were underwater?”
The young man replied, “To breathe.”
The wealthy man looked at him and said:
“When you want to succeed as badly as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.”
That story carries a lesson far beyond money.
Success begins with a decision. Not a wish. Not a dream. Not something you hope will happen one day.
A real decision is when you commit so deeply to your vision that your daily actions begin to reflect it.
When your purpose becomes stronger than your excuses, your discipline becomes stronger than your comfort, and your determination becomes stronger than your fear.
The difference between wanting success and deciding to succeed is the willingness to do what your dream requires.
Everyone wants to breathe. But how many people want their dreams badly enough to fight for them?
