Maksudnya, rotan masih dibenarkan.

Yang berubah bukan undang-undang.
Yang berubah ialah budaya dan cara masyarakat melihat disiplin.

Dulu bila cikgu rotan, ibu bapa datang sekolah bawa nasi lemak tanda terima kasih.

Sekarang bila cikgu rotan, ibu bapa datang bawa surat peguam.

Akibatnya ramai cikgu pilih untuk selamat diam.
Kalau anak murid biadab, ponteng, atau langgar disiplin, mereka lapor saja, bukan bertindak.

Sebabnya takut viral, takut dituduh dera, malas nak buat surat tunjuk sebab.

Kuasa rotan masih ada, tapi rasa percaya dah hilang.
Bukan antara cikgu dan murid, tapi antara cikgu dan ibu bapa.

Generasi ibu bapa hari ini lebih cenderung melindungi daripada mendidik.

Dan bila semua hukuman dianggap kezaliman,
anak-anak pun belajar satu benda:

“Aku boleh buat apa saja, cikgu pun tak berani sentuh.”

Persoalan lebih besar, betulkah rotan itu berkesan dalam mendidik? Adakah zaman dulu tiada kes begini?

Disiplin bukan tentang rotan semata-mata.
