#FestivalSeason: Annual Festival of the Eritrean Community in Switzerland held in Lausanne from 4-5 July this weekend.

Vibrant activities and programmes included: Pavilion showcasing cultural attributes and development progress in Eritrea's six Zobas; cultural shows; children's programmes and seminars on current issues.

The College of Business and Social Sciences has conferred First Degrees & Diplomas to 1018 graduates - 47% of whom are female - in its 19th Commencement held in Asmara today.

Degree courses include: Business Management and Public Administration; Accounting; Economics and Finance; English; Geography; Law; Library and Information Science; and, Sociology and Anthropology.

The Diploma courses consist of: Accounting; Banking; Sociology and Social Work; as well as Tourism and Hotel Management.

I want to become a computer engineer.

My name is Betab Samuel. I am a second-grade student at Mai Chehot Elementary School.

This year, I scored 100 in Mathematics, 100 in Science, 100 in English, and 100 in Tigrinya. I came first in my class and first among all second-grade students in the school. The reason I succeeded in my studies is because I use my time properly and because my parents support me. Students should study hard like me, reduce playtime, and stay focused on their goals.

When I grow up, I want to become a computer engineer.

Condolences: Veteran freedom fighter, very dear colleague, and Head of the Finance and Administration Branch at MoI's Department of Engineering, btsai Kidane Teclemariam (Wedi Tekhali), has passed away at the age of 70 due to sudden illness.

Btsai Kidane joined the EPLF in 1978 and served his people and nation for 48 long years in various capacities with exemplary commitment and dedication.

Wedi Tekhali was initially assigned to the EPLA and later as a photographer in the frontlines as well as behind enemy lines until liberation. After independence, he continued his services at MoI's Branch of Photography and later as Administrator in the Department of Engineering.

HORN OF AFRICA HEREDITARY POLITICAL DILEMMA 

The new claimant - regent - to the throne Ras Teferi (Emperor H. Sellasie) befriends Duce (Mussolini) and visited Italy in 1934. He was provided with some arms and assistance.

Successive political leaders of Ethiopia: i.e. Major Mengistu, Prime Minister Meles, Prime Minister Hailemariam in the recent past and Prime Minister Abiy inthe  present have followed the same proxy security, polectical, economic and diplomatic game, which were inherited from that era as a cultural value and as a model of rule  for staying in power by these leaders. 

Let me share a recent memory, 1984 Rome: on the request and demand of the Mengistu government, Eritrea Peoples Liberation Front (EPLF) was requested for a secret meeting. EPLF accepted the request for their convenience.

In this meeting Dr. Shwandang Bekele reads a memo explaining to our delegation in which he stated that the socialist state of Ethiopia has been elevated to a communist state through economic developments that were achieved in the country since 1974.

Baffled by his presentation, I asked him: “if what you are saying is true, why is famine of the population in Ethiopia being reported publicly and openly in the whole world”. The answer he gave me was blunt and straight forward: “that is western imperialist’s propaganda”.

A very corrupted political leadership heritage which caused conflicts, wars, underdevelopment, poverty, famine & displacements of the population of the region in millions for almost a century now: 

The security chief of Ethiopia: Colonel Tesfay Weldeselassie, Dr. Alemu Abebe, Dr. Shewandagn Bekele on their side Ermias Debesay and myself from the EPLF side were in the above-mentioned meeting.

እንተኾነ እቲ ብነፈርቲ ዝድርበ ዝነበረ ጋንጽላታት ደርጋ ፍርቂ-ፍርቂ ማለት ናብ ተጋደልቲን ጸላእን እዩ ዝወድቅ ነይሩ። ገሊኡ ብንፋስ ተደፊኡ ኣብ ዕርዲ ተጋደልቲ ይዓልብ እሞ፡ ንተጋደልቲ የርብሖም ነይሩ።

ስለዚ እቶም ተጋደልቲን እቶም ወተሃደራት ጸላኢን ኣብቲ ዝድርበ ጋንጽላ ይቀቐዳደሙ ነይሮም። ነቲ ዝመጸ ሽሻይ በብጽሒቶም ዝወስድሉ ዝነበሩ እዋን’ዩ ነይሩ። ጸላኢ ከይሓሰቦ ንወገኑን ንጸላኢኡን ብሓባር ይቕልብን የዕጥቕን ነይሩ ማለት’ዩ። ዘገርም’ዩ!

President Isaias Afwerki departed to Cairo in mid-afternoon hours today for a three-day official visit to Egypt.

During the visit, President Isaias will hold extensive discussions with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on enhancement of broad bilateral ties including in the economic and other sectors.

The two Presidents will further discuss vital issues regarding the Horn of Africa; the security of the Red Sea; and, developments in the Middle East
