Seven years ago, Hong Kong citizens were attacked by a group of men dressed in white and armed with batons inside Yuen Long MTR station.

At least 45 people were injured, while police just stood by and allowed the violence to happen.

The attackers were later reported to have links to the notorious 14K triad. Now, some of those same networks appear to have resurfaced in the U.K. Evidence presented during the HKETO spying trial included discussions about involving the 14K triad in similar attacks against Hong Kong activists in Britain.

If triads, Hong Kong police, and their Beijing-backed networks can coordinate across borders, can anywhere truly be safe for Hong Kong activists in exile?

‼️LAST WEEK, THE U.S. QUIETLY REMOVED NINE CHINESE AND HONG KONG OFFICIALS FROM ITS SANCTIONS LIST.

Here's what actually happened.

In July 2020, the Trump administration declared a national emergency over #HongKong under Executive Order 13936, the legal basis for sanctioning officials who dismantled the city's freedoms. That emergency declaration expired on July 14, 2026.

Days later, the Treasury Department removed everyone who had been sanctioned solely under that order.

Officials designated under the Hong Kong Autonomy Act remain sanctioned. But the following nine weren’t — they were delisted simply because the executive order lapsed.

These are the officials who built and enforced Hong Kong's police state — from the police commissioner who oversaw mass arrests during the 2019 protests to the leaders of national security enforcement, prosecutions, and #Beijing's secret national security office, as well as the justice secretary who implemented the National Security Law.

They did nothing to atone for their crimes against Hong Kongers; the paperwork simply expired.

The Trump administration should re-sanction all nine now.

Yang Jianping 杨建平 spent his career inside the #HongKong Liaison Office, rising to deputy director by 2012. In 2021, the United States Treasury sanctioned him for the office's role in dismantling Hong Kong's autonomy. This month, he came off the list, not because Treasury found he'd done nothing wrong, but because the national emergency declared under Executive Order 13936 expired.

香港国际书展周二（7月21日）闭幕，但各种争议尚未止息。继多家独立书店遭取消资格、有书店店员涉“煽动”而被捕之后，又传出香港物流公司“嘉达国际物流”台湾分公司拒绝承运“违反法规”书籍的消息。

据台媒民视新闻、港媒《明报》等媒体报导，因应香港《维护国家安全法》，“嘉达物流”向客户发公告表示拒绝承运违规的书籍，并要求委托人提供出货书单，确认内容无违法疑虑后才会安排运输；此外，也停止运送书籍至正接受港府调查的田园书屋、留下书舍、一拳书店及猎人书店。

报导指，嘉达台湾分公司称內部没有“禁书名单”，但因近期有香港独立书店遭搜查，因此提醒客户避免运送“标题耸动”、“批评中国政府”及“让香港政府敏感”的书籍，以免货物送抵香港后遭海关扣查。香港海关则表示不评论个别企业做法，也未说明是否曾向物流业者提出相关要求。

香港书展开幕前夕，香港独立书店榆林书店及乐文书店遭主办单位取消参展资格；书展开幕当天，田园书屋与留下书舍遭警方搜查，5人因涉嫌贩售具“煽动意图”书籍被捕。

台湾陆委会副主委梁文杰当时表示，尽管台湾出版业者参展前已对展出书籍进行“自我审查”，但书展期间仍有工作人员巡查并要求部分书籍下架，可能影响业者未来参展资格。
