Autism isn't something to be scared of. It's not something awful. It's something amazing.
Yes, it makes life hard, but that's because society often sucks and is obsessed with 'normal'.
What's normal, anyway? It's a setting on a machine. We're not machines.
My gorgeous boy is diagnosed as Autistic. He's bright, funny, enthusiastic, brilliant, loving. He is all this and more. Not in spite of his Autism. But because that is who he is.
He has an amazing future ahead of him, in spite of what society will have you believe.
@dukiegirl10 I think what we need (all of us...) is one day where we don't worry about it. It'll mean needing to do more the rest of the week, but a day just to watch movies, bake, play games.
So, quick question for anyone really, but especially those with school-age kids. My yr7 Diva had a complete meltdown over the weekend and this morning over the sheer amount of homework due this week. We couldn't get her out of the house this morning.

@blindandb0ujee@Johnboy_Cook I absolutely hate the SEN label. My boy has the same needs as everyone else, just more support to get those needs met! (Note to self... follow up with new person about the laptop in lessons)
Schools could have DisCOs rather than SENCOs.
I moan about my job a fair bit, but today is a great day. My shift started with a loose dog running around the station. He was friendly, and kept me company for a bit while I got hold of his owner.
And, just like that, we are done with primary school... Here's my littlest baby, first day in nursery vs last day in year 6, and I don't think I could be any prouder of this kid. Stunning report, saying what a lively person she's becoming, smashed her English exams out the park..
... passed her maths SATs as well (we knew it might be a struggle, but she persevered and got there). Talented musician (she's passed exams in violin and trombone this year), creative thinker and writer (so good at making stuff up... that's definitely not gonna bite us in the...
