Filed with @ICOnews today for the data-breach element. Letter Before Action going to EG Vacation Rentals Ireland Ltd (the entity Vrbo's UK page identifies as the operator of https://t.co/HLqmyml3IN) this week, with Money Claim Online to follow if no resolution. Will update.
Within hours of the breach I had a WhatsApp from a scammer demanding payment for the stay using my mobile number. Days later, two phishing emails arrived quoting the exact dates of my booking. Vrbo's own support confirmed the host's system was hacked. (case ref !00DC00PxQg)
Ten days ago Vrbo confirmed in writing that one of their hosts had been hacked. My personal data — name, mobile, email, holiday dates — leaked to scammers. Family booking, two adults two kids, August. Today I filed with the ICO. Here's why. 🧵 @Vrbo@ExpediaGroup
This brought tears to my eyes.😢 Meghan talking about her experience of being bullied everyday for 10 years now. She’s such an incredible woman.💕
“My wish for you is that you continue. Continue to be who and how you are. To astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness and to allow humor to lighten the burden of your tender heart.”

Private firms got £12bn NHS contracts.
Private equity, offshore tax haven firms big winners.
£1.6bn profit in 2 yrs. Enough to pay for 9,178 doctors or 19,428 nurses
Health service “taken for a ride”.
Say NO to privatisation. Must expand NHS capacity.

Just a few e.g. of the vile language @wesstreeting has used to publicly insult resident & senior doctors
Dear Wes - here’s a reminder of the NHS workplace bullying criteria…it seems you’re ticking a few boxes
Past papers are the single best revision tool. But most students do them wrong.
They do the paper, check the answers, and move on. They never go back to the questions they got wrong.
LearningBro tracks what you get wrong and brings it back until you get it right.

SHE SAVED LIVES. THEY SACKED HER
Dr Ranson was the Medical Director of the Isle of Man's Department of Health and Social Care @iomdhsc During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, she told the government exactly what needed to happen: close the borders before the hospital gets overwhelmed.
They ignored her. Worse, they didn't even pass her advice on to ministers.
She raised it formally. She blew the whistle. And for doing her job, she was subjected to detriments and unfairly dismissed.
The tribunal didn't just rule in her favour. It awarded her £3,198,754 in compensation, one of the largest whistleblowing payouts in UK history.
The department was also ordered to pay 70% of her legal costs after key documents were withheld and only surfaced through a data subject access request. They buried the evidence too. Of course they did.
@WhistleUK (Protect) covered this as one of their key cases of 2023. So did the @BBC and the Manx press.
Here's the part nobody wants to say, if Dr Ranson's advice had been followed, lives on the Isle of Man could have been saved.
The government didn't just ignore a doctor. It ignored the science, hid the advice, punished the person who gave it, and then had the nerve to drag its feet in court.
This is what institutional failure looks like. Not dramatic. Not obvious. Just quiet, bureaucratic cowardice that costs lives and then costs £3.2 million when someone finally makes them face it.
Whistleblowers are the only reason we ever find out the truth.
