What's the deal with oil and gas industry wanting to store carbon in the ocean?
@foodandwater is calling on @SecretaryBurgum
to HALT a rule that would accelerate carbon storage in the ocean due to the massive scientific gaps in this proposal. @Interior

The Stop Carbon Capture Alliance is hosting a webinar TOMORROW to discuss the 45Q tax credit. Join experts in data science, pipeline safety, and federal policy to discuss why this tax credit should be eliminated.
“We’ve invested billions of dollars trying to convince ourselves that carbon capture and storage will work. It doesn’t work. It costs money."

"Even in the ambitious progress scenario, a dramatic technological advance well beyond anything DAC has demonstrated, renewables still delivered several-fold more climate and health benefits per dollar nationally."

NEW: We organized a letter from 110+ groups urging Interior @SecretaryBurgum to reconsider opening continental shelf waters to offshore CO2 transportation and injection. These carbon capture projects are nothing but climate scams being pushed by Big Oil! https://t.co/AhaJXKFPrZ
🗣️📢 New CCS scam alert! Did you know @BOEM is currently working on a rule that would open our federal waters to offshore carbon sequestration?! 110+ groups just sounded the alarm on this dangerous proposal. https://t.co/swUkAzVZGl
Something that always gets me is that these "well-intentioned" projects never sequester as much as commercial projects. There is a singular project proposed in AL that would sequester 30 tons annually. At 15 years, that's ~450 tons of CO2.

We have so many of the same concerns in the US. Our government also refuses to keep indigenous and overburdened frontline communities safe from new, dangerous technology.

PEAK BLOOM! PEAK BLOOM! PEAK BLOOM!
It's official! The cherry blossoms are opening & putting on a splendid spring spectacle. See you soon.

Residents in heavily industrialized regions say CCS tied to enhanced oil recovery extends pollution burdens while locking in new pipelines and industrial infrastructure. https://t.co/09L6oKsMXY
@VetVoiceFound hey, great physical media about saving federal lands! PLEASE be more careful about posting your ads over political posters! The one you recently added on Georgia ave in DC covered up a poster of Renee Good
There is growing recognition that we should not waste tax dollars on dangerous projects that only benefit the oil and gas industry.

Homelessness should make you uncomfortable, not because someone you don’t know is making you uncomfortable on a train for 20 minutes, but because we exist in a society that is so willing to let people suffer without any support system day after day until they die.
Signs of the time: why are there so few staff members working on the biggest CCS project in the US? @airproducts quietly idling progress on this "first of it's kind" carbon capture attempt.

Another example of industry outright saying they plan to use 45q for Enhanced oil recovery, NOT sequestration.
"It is therefore expected that there will be growth in commercial deployment of CO2-EOR projects only."
