Ron gets treated like comic relief, but go through the actual receipts. First book, he’s the one who reads the chess board like a real strategist and gets everyone through it.

Deathly Hallows, he’s the one who remembers basilisk venom destroys Horcruxes and figures out how to fake Parseltongue to reopen the Chamber, alone, with zero help. He’s also the one who clocks that saying Voldemort’s name is being traced, which keeps the trio alive.

Then there’s the moment people forget entirely, he comes back after leaving, pulls Harry out of a freezing lake before he drowns, retrieves the sword of Gryffindor himself, and uses it to destroy the locket Horcrux, which requires literally facing his worst insecurities and pushing through them. That’s not sidekick behavior. That’s someone doing real, difficult work the story just doesn’t spotlight the way it does for Harry and Hermione.
