✈️ We were delighted to welcome Dr. Ulrich Hambach (from BayCEER and Romanian Academy) to our lab for a short stay this week! An expert in Quaternary loess and lake archives, his visit sparked inspiring discussions on paleomagnetism, and future collaborations across Europe!
Our team hosted an archaeomagnetic dating workshop this week 🧲🧭
We were delighted to have Partick Arneitz and Gaelle Segue-Passama from GeoSphere Austria giving guest lectures.✏️
Thank you all for the fruitful exchange and collaboration!

🎤📻Our team gave a public outreach interview to the radio @CRozhlas on a study of soil samples taken near a tree struck by lightning in Vratislavice, where eighteen people were injured last year. The study is carried out under the Strategy AV21 programme @CzechAcademy

We collected paleomagnetic samples from Jama Vilenica Cave – first touristic cave in the world (since 1633) – together with colleagues from Karst Research Institute in Slovenia (ZRC SAZU) to understand timing of tectonic regimes in the karst system.

Our last year PhD student Hakan Ucar gave the second talk from our lab in the Castle Meeting yesterday morning! It was about a new paleomagnetic record from a Central European lake sediment of Holocene age.
Gregite was long overshadowed by magnetite. Now, we know, it indicates lots of things from magnetism to paleoenvironment. Here, we tried to figure out its co-existence with magnetite magnetofossils in a large paleolake! However, there is still too much to discover about it!
🚨New Publication Alert🚨
The unknown time lag between the depositional remanence acquired by magnetite and chemical remanence by diagenetic greigite was revealed in a Miocene lake record by our team.

Türkiye is an open-air laboratory for paleomagnetists🧲It consists of many micro-tectonic plates, like small pieces of a puzzle🧩In this newly published paper, we tried to put together the northern part of the puzzle! It was my master's thesis a few years ago😊

Join me at #EGU23 if you would like to discuss about a new inclination and relative paleointensity record from Central European Holocene sediments! It's interesting because we don't often come across such data in Central Europe😊

Our colleague Hakan Ucar, PhD student, will be presenting a poster at #EGU23 about the first paleomagnetic record of the Holocene sediments from Tatra Mts, Poland.
Meet him in Hall X2, poster board X2.305 between 10:45-12:30 on 26th April.
