Today, we met the UN's Resident Coordinator officer Mr. Shah Nasir Khan at the UN office in Islamabad. In the meeting Dr. Mariam Shaikh, a communications advisor in the UN and Ms. Mio Sato, the former Chief Mission of the United Nations Mission to Pakistan were also present.

We briefed them about severe human rights abuses in Balochistan, such as enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and harassment and arrests of of peaceful Baloch protesters in Islamabad and across the country. They assured us to raise this issue with the officials in the UN.

The government's initiation of a witch hunt against those who participated or morally supported the sit-in in Turbat and Kohlu, through the suspension of government employees, reveals the seriousness of the government in resolving issues. The state is attempting to maintain an environment of fear and terror by dismissing 44 government employees in Turbat and Kohlu. The state machinery has also registered fake FIRs against sit-in participants in a number of areas. They’re creating more problems than solving the underlying issues.
