If you’re a working parent in the UK, you pay high taxes, contributing to public services. Yet the moment you lose your job, through redundancy or other reasons, you lose the 30 hours of free childcare for your child (i.e sending your child to nursery).
The 30-hour childcare scheme is meant to support working parents, but the reality is that thr system is unfair.
•Lose your job? You immediately lose the 30 hours, even though your child still needs care and you’ve been funding the system.
•Earn over £100K? You also lose eligibility, despite contributing the most in taxes to fund the system.
It’s as if the government doesn’t want parents to get ahead, even while taking a large portion of your income when you’re employed. Parents are penalised for working hard or experiencing temporary unemployment, while the universal 15 hours barely covers basic childcare costs.
@Keir_Starmer, policies like this fail to support the families contributing the most, creating financial stress at exactly the worst times.
As a parent I feel the system unfairly punishes parents if they work hard or during job loss, even though their taxes continue to fund public services. Such policies make such situations more financially painful than they should be.

In another comprehensive victory for X, the Berlin Regional Court II has rejected an application for X to turn over its data to activist organization, Democracy Reporting International (DRI), and ordered DRI to cover X’s legal costs. DRI demanded unrestricted access to X’s real-time data about all user posts on the platform globally for a supposed research project regarding the Hungarian election.
The court rightly determined that it did not have international jurisdiction and dismissed DRI’s application outright. This is not the first time that DRI has used the pretext of a European election to try and obtain unrestricted access to user data: https://t.co/2POfcD9YSj
On both occasions, X has prevailed. X refuses to stand by and allow activist organizations to exploit user data under the guise of “research”. This is a victory for X and for our users around the world.

Update on X’s Civic Integrity Policy
We believe civic participation starts with access to accurate information, and we’re empowering the community to keep election conversations open and informed.
What’s Changed
We’re introducing a new Civic Integrity report flow that will route your submission to request a Community Note, allowing people to flag potentially misleading content and add context and credible sources in real time.
This update gives the community the tools to provide context and credible sources that traditional enforcement moderation tools don’t, and ultimately, keeps users better informed.

Experimental algorithm update! Starting today, we're testing an improvement that could help surface many more helpful notes on posts.
For now these notes are shown to a random test group to gather feedback. Learn more under “Gaussian Model” in the Guide: https://t.co/PsjXmc0x6r
I’m proud to share an important update on the work X’s child safety team has done to protect minors on and off the platform. When X is made aware of content depicting or promoting child sexual exploitation, including links to third party sites where this content can be accessed, the accounts sharing this content are reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
As a result of X’s efforts, in 2024, 309 reports made by X to NCMEC led to arrests and subsequent convictions in 10 cases that were confirmed by Law Enforcement agencies. And in the first half of 2025, 170 reports led to arrests. X made a total of 686,176 reports in 2024 and approximately 46% of the reports made to NCMEC were submitted without requiring a human moderator at X to review potentially traumatic content.
We remain committed to protecting children on our platform, and we’ll continue to invest in, and improve detection of child sexual exploitation through automation.
