There are some Somalis who are more Eritrean than Somali - to be precise they love Isaias Afwerki than any Somali. One of those people is Dr. Ali S Faqi. I am not saying this lightly; I have experiences to prove it, and I will leave that for another time. For now, let me respond to his misinformed reaction to my debate with Prof. Mohamed Hassan:
1. The difference between Ali Faqi and myself is obviously “ideological”. He believes in dictatorship, where the wishes and whims of the “strongman” leader matter more than rights and well being of the citizens. I believe in democracy, where the rights and well being of the citizens are fundamental to the progress and effective functioning of any state. He and I had that discussion when I was the minister of foreign affairs and he was our ambassador to Belgium.
2. He wondered whether I was “serious or provocative” when I argued that Mogadishu is more developed than Asmara. Let me reassure him: I was serious. I was responding to his ideological comrade who claimed - ignorantly - that “Somalia doesn’t exist” and that we don’t have electricity, among other things. I have been to Asmara and I lived in Mogadishu. I can confidently state that many Somali cities - let alone Mogadishu - are more developed than Asmara, in terms of access to essentials and modern amenities such as electricity, internet, telephones, restaurants, hotels and more. But more importantly, I was referring to the freedom and the liberty of the people which are the hallmark of human dignity and the true measure of development. By that standard, which Ali Faqi apparently doesn’t recognize, Mogadishu is far more developed than depressing Asmara - not only in high-rise buildings.
3. In my debate, I acknowledged there is much that is wrong with our political culture, governance and state building that we must improve. However, Somalia still has a potentially more promising future than Eritrea—especially if you consider the freedom and the liberty that our people enjoy in engaging politics, practicing religion, creating businesses, traveling when and where they want, which is sadly not available to the Eritreans because of their regime.
4. He said I should study Eritrea! He needs to be educated that I know more about the history of Eritrea than he. He shouldn’t confuse his closeness and love for Afework with knowledge about Eritrea and its people.
5. I am open to debate him on all of these.
Events in Hormuz make clear that there's no military solution to a political crisis.
As talks are making progress with Pakistan's gracious effort, the U.S. should be wary of being dragged back into quagmire by ill-wishers. So should the UAE.

“Neither the future of the Palestinian people nor the territorial sovereignty of Somalia can be used as a bargaining chip…
Unequivocally rejects any steps aimed at advancing this objective, including any attempt by Israel to relocate the Palestinian population from Gaza into Northwestern Somalia…
Will neither accept nor condone the illegal use of any territory, let alone that of a sovereign State which is a Member of the United Nations, to deny the right to self-determination to a people who have been subjected to crimes against humanity for many years…
Rather than contributing genuinely to the commendable international peace efforts in the Middle East through the long-overdue recognition of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State, Israel has instead chosen to project instability into the Horn of Africa, promote division and create new sources of tensions in a region, already facing multidimensional and complex challenges.”

This #Ramadan , as International Women’s Day approaches, NIRA is prioritizing National ID registration for women.
Female staff will ensure a safe and comfortable process. Your ID is your key to financial independence, healthcare, education, and more. Don’t miss this opportunity!
@alihwarsame Dear, as you have mentioned, policies vary from state to state depending on their national interests. For NIRA, we have temporarily chosen this system because the identification system will be upgraded to the latest version of identity.
N/B. NIRA has a fee waiver regulations.
Today marks a historic moment for #Somalia as we officially launch the National ID Card printing process. This significant milestone paves the way for a unified, secure, and inclusive identification system, enhancing access to vital services for all. 🇸🇴

The "Golden Rule," and what virtually every major religion teaches: not lying, not cheating, not stealing — but treating people as you would like to be treated.
The minister of foreign affairs of #Somaliland insists that he has not seen the MoU between Somaliland and #Ethiopia but also questioned it. He stresses that recognition will not be used to "abuse us [Somaliland]. Selling our land to others for recognition does not make sense"👇
#Somalia’s President and the Speakers of the two chambers have adopted a hodgepodge of self-serving legislation and policies designed to gerrymander the outcome of the political process in their favor.
These divisive policies threaten the fragile political settlement and restrict the country’s political space.
This highlights the urgent need for a credible and responsible opposition that challenges this power grab and advocates for inclusivity, accountability, and transparency in a peaceful manner.
The Orwellian doublespeak of misusing the principle of “one person, one vote” to undermine inclusive politics and advance sectarian agendas must be confronted.
Simply put, the government’s determination to write the rulebook, select the referees, and play the game themselves is a dangerous path. Please stop.
As they say, the ‘international community and the Indian Ocean’ kept Somali politicians together and in the country. So, will the international community be a passive observer as the political settlement falls apart? I hope not.

Madaxweynaha iyo guddoonka baarlamaanku waxay maalin cad la dhumeen dalka iyo dadka. Waxayna la meel halis ah. Waxay qaateen mashaariic siyaasadeed oo kooxeysan oo dadka aad u sii qeybinaya. Allow sahal.
Waxaa ka dhalanaya madhruucan burburka heshiis-siyaasadeedka daciifka ah iyo inuu xirmo fagaaraha siyaasadda ee awalba in yar u furnaa.
Tani waxay muujineysaa sida loogu baahan yahay mucaarad masuul ah oo uga hortegi kara awood-marooqsiga dowladda, una qareema nidaam dadku wada leeyahay.
Ma habboona in dadka lagu jah-wareeriyo ereyo maran iyo “doorasho qof iyo cod ah” iyo been iyadoo laga shaqeynayo wax kale iyo xeerar lagu boobayo awoodda siyaasadda. Go’aanka dowladda ee leh “xeerka aniga qoraya, garsooraha anaa xulanaya, cayaartana anaa cayaaraya” dalka uma fiicna ee ha laga joogo.
Waxaan maqli jiray ‘waxaa siyaasiyiinta Soomaalida isku-haya beesha caalamka iyo badweynta Hindiya.’ Haddii kale, mar hore ayaa qaarkood Hindiya ayagoo sii socda la arki lahaa. Haddaba, waxaa iga su’aal ah, bulshada caalamka oo waayadan ilka-beeshay ma ka sii aamusnaan doonaan xaalkan? Ma filayo.
The ICC arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant is not only a step towards accountability and justice in #Palestine but also a step to restore the credibility of the rules based international order and its judicial system. It is now incumbent upon all parties who say they support the institutions of international law, human rights and justice to act on the @IntlCrimCourt’s warrants. Today is a good day for all those who believe in internationalism.

Netanyahu, Gallant, and Deif have all launched indiscriminate attacks against civilians and caused unimaginable human suffering.
If the world does not uphold international law, we will descend into further barbarism.
I agree with the ICC.
