@WilliamABooth But very interesting there was such a significant level of Italian immigration to Venezuela, particularly during the post-WWII oil boom years. I had been aware of lots of Portuguese migration to VEN in that period (especially from Madeira, it seems).
@WilliamABooth The sourcing for the 16% figure looks dubious to me. (It crops up in the Wikipedia article on ‘Italian Venezuelans’, where one news story in Italian is cited as saying there are ‘5m Venetians’ in Venezuela — right next to other references suggesting much lower figures …)
@WilliamABooth Unsettling how frequent an occurrence a “fatality on the line” seems to be on British railways. I have had two disrupted journeys for the same reason within the last four weeks (and I’m not on the trains every day).
@SpinningHugo Pre-closure, the Botley Road was regularly at a standstill with Westgate traffic on weekends, and that was with alternative ways in from the south (Abingdon Rd, which also backed up) and north. With all other access restricted by the new traffic filters, it will only be worse.

Hey, @OxfordCity, care to explain why the Oatlands play area remains padlocked *weeks* after floodwaters receded. Have seen the feeble excuses about ground being too wet to get cleaning equipment in, but the park has been dry for a good while, too. Really, really poor.
Hadn’t been aware of this monument to the crewmen killed when two Mexican tankers were torpedoed by German U-boats in 1942, prompting Mexico to enter WWII. In Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas (an important port for the Mexican oil industry), according to one of the replies.

In all likelihood, Lai will have been one of the 50,000 Hongkongers granted citizenship under the pre-handover British Nationality Selection Scheme.

@benjamintsmith7 "Half a million pesos" sounds scandalous, but that's "just" US$5k/person. Considering it's likely gov't policy that tickets must be fully flexible (so as to be refundable if, say, SEGOB cancels the event), and the figure covers lodging, etc, too, it's not all that high an amount.
As you’re the Mexican embassy in the UK, might be worth mentioning that (per your graphic), permanent residence in, or a valid visa for, the UK will also do the trick.
(Curious that an Irish visa/residence apparently won’t, as they’re not in Schengen — an oversight?)
✈️Who is exempt from this visa requirement? Travelers with permanent residence or valid visa in Canada, the United States, Japan, any country of Schengen Area, or member countries of the

That’s some brass neck from “airline industry insiders” when it’s their beloved checked baggage fees that push passengers to try to carry on as much as possible …
