A3: Standards allow for a jumping off point of literacy practices that can then be expanded upon in ways that allow for self-expression and individuality. It is harmful, though, because who gets to choose what is important enough to be a standard? #schmiteracies

A2: Schools might be designed to value ‘correctness’ over self-expression because correctness is more easily measured. This benefits the dominant culture since it strengthens their hold over society for there to be right and wrong answers

A4: I expereinced appropriation of the dominant culture in the way scientific articles and texts are written. The complexities of the articles seem to often be written so that those with knowledge of what the dominant sphere can understand and pick them apart #schmiteracies
